Yeah this title makes it sound like they're afraid of consequences from Google. But it's actually because of being afraid of external attention, given the consistency of leaks on this whole thing.
Is it not? How did you interpret the article?
Edit: Fear not, downvoters, I'm just asking a question, not challenging your beliefs.

The mods (or somebody) are actively suppressing this story and all other stories about James. It's reasonable; they are probably trying to keep it from distracting us from what this board is generally for. But perhaps they could make a sticky or something about it.
It makes much more sense to postpone this until some of the media and public furor dies down.
Regardless of which side you are on, it's not worth the risk of discussing it openly right now.

Its probably because business insider reports roughly 50% disagreed with the firing.
This will only get worse because of the extreme polarization.
Plus Bannon is out for googles blood.

Or maybe because its employees feared being doxxed for participating:
> “We had hoped to have a frank, open discussion today as we always do to bring us together and move forward. But our Dory questions appeared externally this afternoon, and on some websites Googlers are now being named personally,” Pichai wrote in an email to employees. “Googlers are writing in, concerned about their safety and worried they may be ‘outed’ publicly for asking a question in the Town Hall.”

Can you share a link? Is love to know where that number came from. I'm personally incredulous that someone could be fired over such a reasonable letter, even if their conclusions were incorrect.
And to the OP - it's hard to see this as anything other than a deliberate attempt to distort the debate.
