to be very clear, shorting Tesla is not the same as being a TSLAQ member. TeslaQ's operating hypothesis is that they can drive Tesla bankrupt. (Hence TSLAQ, the symbol tesla would have if it declared bankruptcy). At Tesla's current level, I think shorting it isn't a insane idea (but most of TSLAQ has been bankrupt by doing so).
uhhh TSLAQ doesn't have an operating hypothesis, though we do have a mission as stated in the Wikipedia entry: "to change the mind of Tesla stock bulls and the media." there are some TSLAQ that think the company will go bankrupt - as it almost has by Musk's own admission - while there are those that don't engage in prediction or prescription.
TSLAQ is the flip / dark side side of the tesla hype. Where people say that Tesla can do no wrong, to TSLAQ, everything that Tesla has ever done is fraudulent. They set themselves up to short the stock, and then unleash endless attacks on rumors on Twitter to try and make a buck.
For example, there was a organized campaign and innuendo to the effect that Tesla wouldn't sell any roadsters - then any S, then any X, then any 3s.
Then they started that all of the threes where going to a landfill, or left baking in the sun for months because the door handles didn't work. Then they claimed that Tesla would never sell the model 3 in Europe, due to regulatory problems.
They also have apparently paid people to hack Tesla and then release the most negative information to earn money on their shorts.
Niedermeyer became famous for establishing a "Tesla death watch" column back when they were making the roadster.
Not saying that Tesla does everything right (they don't) - but at the end of the day, TSLAQ is just the automotive variant of QAnon.

I think one of the problems with shorting is that you have to get the timing right. This makes short plays so much more difficult than long plays since you need to fund the short position long term potentially.
I think that people have shorted Tesla (right thesis or wrong, i don't know)...found themselves with margin calls or unable to roll their position forward, and then resorted to the innuendo/negativity to somehow "force" the fall to happen.
It is unfortunate, because as an engineer, i'm super excited by another engineer (Elon Musk and team) taking world-changing risks and being rewarded for it.
Disclosure: i'm long TSLA bigtime!

The other problem is that when the short goes underwater (in other words the stock increases) it inevitably leads to them having to purchase the stock at a higher level to pay back the short. That squeeze ends up self-perpetuating.
"they" "they" they"
do you spread FUD by speaking monolithically about other groups of people as well? also lol at the dark side part as you can see from the Wikipedia entry Tesla under musk is hardly a shining example of safety engineering, following OSHA's rules, interacting reasonably with the press, etc. etc. etc.

Wow. There are plenty of things to criticize Tesla and Elon Musk about without resorting to lies and bullshit speculation.
