The word "quietly" does so much heavy lifting in the headline, implying wrongdoing and sinister deeds when there is no evidence of malice at all. What are they supposed to do, make a big press release about how they got it wrong and beg for forgiveness? These things happen when reporting breaking news.
I think the "two capitol police" sources were either lying or the NYT reporter was lying. Either way, with such hefty allegations I believe there needs to be more transparency and accountability for reckless reporting of unverified "facts."
Go figure... this wasn't just the news getting it wrong but, it was also one of the core points brought up in the recent impeachment of the former President.
