The problem is that most of these patterns work. You can be irritated as a user, disgust as a designer, but decision makers are concerned that the number (MAU, ARR, MRR) must to go up, therefore dark patterns are popular. And I hate them with all my heart.
By the same logic, theft, fraud and other crime also works (in terms of delivering the expected outcome to the perpetrator) so does this mean we as a society should accept and condone this behavior?
