Nelson is brilliant- i've enjoyed his blog tremendously over the years.
Especially his posts on how to properly think about testing. - https://blog.nelhage.com/post/testing-and-feedback-loops/

For ages now, I've thought we should unify TERM and termios. There should be an ioctl for retrieving a terminal description from a tty, out of band. Everything else is a hack.
Cygwin implements termios over the Windows console API. So I mean call tcsetattr() to go to character-at-a-time input and so on. Not only termios, but ANSI escape sequences, too.
With the Cygnal fork of the Cygwin DLL, you can deploy a Cygwin program as a "native" Windows program. You bundle the .exe with cygwin1.dll from the Cygnal project, and any other needed .dll's from Cygwin.
