Not only that, but LogMeIn itself was then sold to a private equity[1] company shortly after in 2019. I was iffy when LogMeIn bought them, this made me switch to Bitwarden.

After they had bumped up the price for the second year in a row (without any meaningful justification), I moved to 1Password and never looked back.
I would love a good comeback story and I wish them all the luck but it is yet to be seen how it will pan out (a similar move done by Quicken effectively did nothing, resulting in the same bored, stagnant product holding users hostage). The article suggests that they might be aiming toward enterprise product (which has a very different dynamics compared to a consumer one).

I used to be a big LastPass proponent myself, but I only ever used their free tier. After the LogMeIn acquisition there was something people were frustrated about, I don’t remember what though, and I started being less satisfied with their products.
I got a referral trial of 1Password from a friend and it was so nice and polished I have been a paid customer of theirs ever since.
I hope that LastPass becoming more focused on their original mission will allow them to succeed more at it.

If I'm not mistaken, they reduced the amount of devices where you could use it simultaneously? (or maybe I'm conflating this with Dropbox).
A sure one is that they, somewhat recently, limited your use of the free tier to either desktop or mobile devices. So you could use it on your laptop's browser or your smartphone, but not both.

This outage (or another one that was similarly newsworthy) was the last straw for me:

It's funny how companies come and go. Might as well stayed independent all this time! hah
[1]: It had been "recently" in my own flawed perception of time, but today I found it happened on 2015 so that's 6 years ago already, oh well I guess I'm getting old :')
