Sounds like the classic correlation vs. causation canard. Consider, for example, Massachusetts vs. Mississippi. Are the differences due to the political leanings of the state or to other factors, such as socio-economic bases, etc? This kind of story is simply pre-election propaganda.
While the simulation results might be true on the single statistic of mortality. Conservatism has never been optimized for that metric. The model does not seem to account for the value of liberty, opportunity, multigenerational wealth etc.
In fact many people are waking up to the concept that staying alive longer is bordering on a net loss if it means your years are significantly detrimentally impacted. To arbitrarily illustrate the idea I'd rather be very happy up to 80 than in a wheel chair from 70-90, and in a leftist state I'd lose the option to pick the pattern that's best for me.

Thank you for this comment - happy to see I'm not alone in thinking that longevity at any cost is a stupid metric. And more generally it highlights why technocracy is so dangerous because political decisions end up being made that are counter to human interests, based on stupid simplification like longevity as a proxy for a good life
How do leftist states force people into wheelchairs decades sooner?
The point is that leftist states often achieve the simulated results through restriction of choice.
> The study authors also noted that American life expectancy as a whole is lower than in most high-income countries, “fall[ing] between … Cuba and Albania”.
They buried the lede. And also failed to mention the infant mortality rate, and maternal mortality rate.
