The article reads like an ad and doesn't mention whether other phones can crowdsource locate your item like iPhones can with AirTags.

One of the drawbacks to Tile was that other users had to have the title software installed and running constantly in the background in order to help locate your lost device.

It's not nearly as effective as Apple's approach where all iPhone users are opt-in when it comes to helping locate missing AirTags.
