Ask HN: How to connect internal SSD from ThinkPad E14 externally for backup?

The drive in an E14 is a M.2 SSD which can be removed and placed in a M.2 Sata to USB Enclosure for external connection to any computer. You can also place that M.2 drive in any other compatible system that takes M.2.
M.2 is the name of the connector on the end of the drive. There are different types of M.2 connector. Most modern SSD M.2 drives are M Keyed. You need to make sure that the enclosure you use is compatible. Most modern enclosures will be.

If I connect such SSD externally via usb to another laptop and choose in its BIOS settings to boot from USB, will the OS on this SSD boot up as if it were inserted into this another laptop?
It should, there might be some driver issues. This would be a problem if it is the WLAN driver since then Windows can't download another from the Internet unless you use a wired connection.
Windows also might have activation issues since too much hardware has changed.

You will need to back-ups periodically. Soldered RAM or not.

Some time ago I saw on google how it is sort of possible to make an USB stick from an internal SSD (a special casing with USB cable is needed). Is it the only way, or are there specific devices designed to accommodate internal SSD for external connection to a laptop via USB port?
