So to distinguish an AI from a human in order to get access to a public service, you would need to do an iris scan by a crypto company founded by the guy who controls the AI.
I had an interview with Worldcoin a year or so ago. The crypto part looks like printing monopoly money. The Orb itself is a remarkable peace of technology though.
I wish investors would send some of those millions to me instead of just lighting them on fire.
"Paywalled, but don't worry. To read this article, please look into your web cam to confirm your iris scanned identity."
A while back, I read an article about how most of the billions invested in crypto ICOs, over the last few years, simply disappeared, along with their creators. I'd like to know how this is different, but the article is behind a paywall.
> in what would be a rare bright spot for a sector which has endured a bleak year.
The only reason to believe Worldcoin would be a “bright spot” is if you did zero research and are taking the creators fully at their word. Worldcoin is a known scam.

> Worldcoin executives said their approach tackles two problems raised by the increasing sophistication of artificial intelligence: distinguishing between humans and bots, and providing a form of universal basic income which might offset job losses caused by AI.
A problem created by another Sam Altman company! Why would you trust them to solve the issue they started?

you misread. the bright spot is the funding event.

Worldcoin is not a known scam. It is a new company and what they set out to do is different than what they have already done.
It is a dumb ponzi-like crypto scam that makes me suspicious of Altman, given he’s in charge of OpenAI, one of the most important technology companies currently.
Our investigation revealed wide gaps between Worldcoin’s public messaging, which focused on protecting privacy, and what users experienced. We found that the company’s representatives used deceptive marketing practices, collected more personal data than it acknowledged, and failed to obtain meaningful informed consent.
So you scan your eyeball and get coins? I don't get it. Where does the value come from?
Why should it have value? It s a certificate of eyeball. But eventually everything gets a value in life
That said it s not clear why this will have value at all or else governments would be selling ID certificates to businesses. So far, only the wallgardening of ID seems to make money

They want access to your iris (to create a unique ID for you), in return you get access to a crypto coin? Is this for real or what?
Can anyone think about privacy at these firms just once.
Can anyone think about privacy at these firms just once.
They are thinking about privacy, just as a target for elimination, not a thing to protect.
