This is a significant point. The future of VLSI is likely not going to be just about shrinking transistors. We have to think about how feasible it is to fit so many transistors in such a small area, and all of the fundamental limitations that poses. It's possible that there will be an major secondary development pathway regarding how to provide power to transistors for future fabrication nodes. Backside power delivery may deliver as big if not bigger gains than simple shrinking of transistor sizes for the next few nodes.
