When baby is 3 months old, parents are waking up an average of one hour more per night compared to parents 40 years ago. 34 of those minutes are from babies sleeping on their backs instead of their bellies to prevent SIDS, and 26 are from breastfeeding instead of formula. People talk a lot about cultural factors that make modern parenting harder but not so much about how babies literally sleep worse!
The exact cause of SIDS is unknown!
To prevent SIDS babies "ARE" supposed to sleep on their backs!!
Most deaths happen during the first 6 months of a baby's life. Infants born prematurely or with a low birthweight are at greater risk.
place your baby in the "feet to foot" position – with their feet touching the end of the cot, Moses basket, or pram
keep your baby's head uncovered – their blanket should be tucked in no higher than their shoulders
let your baby sleep in the same room as you for the first 6 months
make sure there are no pillows or duvets near your baby if you share a bed with them
keep other children and pets out of the bed if you share a bed with your baby
use a mattress that's firm, flat, waterproof and in good condition
What about the increase in noise in the world we live in??

Yes, the reason it works to reduce the chances of SIDS is likely because they don't sleep as soundly on their backs.
