Don’t forget that happy people have a far more chance to get and stay married.

Marriage is not the cause of happiness.

Partners with reasonable expectations and willing to put effort in stay married. A lasting marriage is a byproduct of emotionally healthy and resilient people who want to show up to the job each day together.

Reads more like a spat between researchers.

That is, amusingly, the source of a ton of good research. :D

Back in the day there was a spat between Puritans and Congregationalists. So when one of them founded Harvard the other founded Yale.

Happiness is a social construct and it is built to reflect what is deemed preferrable by those who call the shots.

This sounds something that only a miserable, bitter person would ever think of saying.

I feel like you’re going to have to establish what you define as ‘happiness’ if you’re going to make claims like that.

Everything is a social construct.

Objective reality is a social construct.

The fucking universe is a social construct.

You ain't smart.

"But doctor," cried the great clown Pagliacci, "I am the one who calls the shots!"

To construct anything socially, boundaries or islands, are required protected from the rest of the universe.

Globalization, or the interconnecting of all kinds of societies and social constructs, within and across national boundaries, has thrown things up in the air. People who used to call the shots and gained a lot through globalization, are flailing around helplessly, cuz what they gained doesn't help them control anything.

Look at cash, flowing instantly from one shell company to another, across city/state/national boundaries, avoiding tax, constantly multiplying, more and more disconnected from any social requirement or purpose.

The fact that those who call the shots aren't in control is where salvation lies.
