Well.. I mean Calhoun's "Universe 25" mouse experiment says it all doesn't it.
ie. -- "Eventually other deviant behavior emerged. Mice who had been raised improperly or kicked out of the nest early often failed to develop healthy social bonds, and therefore struggled in adulthood with social interactions. Maladjusted males began isolating themselves like hermits in empty apartments—unusual behavior among mice, vying their time playing vidya or writing useless but whimsical unix programs. Maladjusted females, meanwhile, took to grooming all day—preening and licking themselves hour after hour, incessantly posting pictures of themselves on social media for attention. Calhoun called them “the beautiful ones.”"

Wasn't that always the case, with every generation? Your mortgage was taken out decades ago, those payments seemed high back then, now they were eaten by inflation. I bet after 20 years, nearly every mortgage becomes smaller than equivalent rent, that's how it was always supposed to be. Mortgage is a heavy burned only in the first few years before inflation eats it.
Can you elaborate a bit about the socioeconomic conditions?

Does anyone have detailed demographic data on US birth rates? Things like socio-economic, ethnicity, race etc. Just saying fertility rates are hitting an all time low isn’t really helpful.
Everything comes in comparison. It's still a lot better than virtually every civilised country is doing, either democratic or authoritarian. Every one save for Israel, that is. And, their birthrates are also falling faster.
Chiseling away at nation state as stable, ideal political unit.
Just shut down the CDC. Problem solved /s.
President Doge and Wormbrain Kennedy want to do that, don't they? Doge also has this breeding-fetish.
Hah, the above paragraph needs several pages of footnotes of explanation, but incredibly I feel like it's an accurate summary of the coming state of US politics..

None of them have children.
I do not blame any of them.
They are all educated professionals with stable careers, and they all pay more in rent than I do for my mortgage.
If decades ago I lived in the socioeconomic conditions in which they are currently living, I would have gotten a vasectomy in my 20s to avoid the financial terrorist attack that is having a baby.
