You see much lamentation from older technical folks who came of age in the 80s and 90s and fondly remember the old internet. It is odd because all their complaints are almost entirely just about a couple social networks. Certainly facebook and twitter are dying. That seems like a really good thing to me but perspectives may vary.
I find myself wishing more and more that AI would hurry up and kill facebook and google, then we could get back outside and start guiding the growth of the internet as a global community as opposed to a couple silicon valley megacorps deciding what everyone sees every day.
It will be kind of like most of history where the only trustworthy method of communication is with face to face communication or with a letter or book (perhaps cryptographically) verified from a person you personally know or trust. Sounds good to me
Yeah the expanse gets plenty of the newtonian orbital mechanics physics right but totally gloss over other important parts of space travel such as: how do you deal with the thermal buildup-space is a nearly perfect insulator. Wheres the radiators? They are regularly moving at speeds that would have a small but additive relativistic effect. Wheres the belters/other spacers who live several hundreds of earth years but not nearly as many from their perspective. Not to mention the pure impossibility of the Epstein drive. The Epstein drive is probably the most glaring example of human clarketech in the whole story.
Anyways I love the Expanse but the books were better anyway
