This may just be a reiteration of other commenters, but a for-profit enterprise would just buy liability insurance, and then bake the cost of that liability insurance in the sales price.
Right, so no medical institution in their right mind would buy that device. Paying a little more up front for what is effectively a permanent insurance policy is a no-brainer for any large organization.
