The PDF has a four sentence summary. The lazy critic did not quite reach the second sentence, which literally prohibits a selection of planes from landing on some airstrips due to a dangerous software bug (the details of the bug, which airstrips, and sort of why, is in the rest of the article — but it's pretty clear the lazy critic didn't make it past the post here).

If they'd read the whole PDF, they might have seen these bits:

"All six display units (DUs) blanked with a selected instrument approach to a runway with a 270-degree true heading, and all six DUs stayed blank until a different runway was selected."

And:

"An unsafe condition exists that requires the immediate adoption of this AD without providing an opportunity for public comments prior to adoption."

That's pretty serious, and indeed fits exactly with "some Boeing 737s can't land due West."

When you are learning the basics, you are doing very basic tasks. R can do very basic tasks. MS Excel can do very basic tasks. If you never go beyond the basics, there is no compelling reason to use R (or any other programming language) over MS Excel.

Programming languages come into their own when the tasks stop being basic, but the learning process usually goes through "Hello, World" first.

I mean, if you're just going to print a line of text to the screen, why use Python? Just open an MS Word document. MS Word can even include variables and insert them dynamically!

Note: DoorDash employs the labor of approximately 104,000 people. Of those, about 4,000 are classified as employees. Of those, only a portion (of unknown size) are "equity-eligible."

Only equity-eligible roles classified as employees get equity. For everyone else employed by DoorDash, and on whose backs DoorDash is built, let them eat cake.

I'm not surprised. On average, they were still under 6 hours, if barely. And if the sleep problems are interrupt-driven, this study does not appear to account for sleep quality.
