Don't know how it works for large drug dealers but I would assume they use the same channels as money launderers: overseas accounts.

You get in contact with a connections guy and they give you a list of accounts to pay in yuan (usually business owners that makes profit overseas), they pay you in USD from their legitimate businesses for some made up invoice. Each transaction is under the limit for being scrutinized. Once money is out of the country, you can pay people off however you want.

Prostitutes would probably just take cash if close to limits.

> Does the government turn a blind eye to most of it?

Sort of. It's difficult to track private transactions on WeChat between friends to actual goods being sold. From what I've seen, most illegal goods/services sold just have you add them as a "friend" and send the agreed upon amount. Somewhat informal but neither side tends to scam since the consequences of escalating (e.g. getting a WeChat account banned) essentially makes it impossible to live. I've also seen Taobao being used where they place an overpriced real product that you buy and the margin is what you pay for the illegal good.

I'm not sure if it's truly turning a blind eye or whether the scale is just too large for the government to do anything about it.

> Omitting social media information could lead to “visa denial and ineligibility” for future visas, the embassy added.

The state capture by big tech is getting insane. No national ID because privacy and government overreach but sure force everyone to register an account with a private entity that specifically profits by selling your personal information.

I am curious if they'll reject me for not having any active mainstream social media accounts. I suppose I'll find out next year. Might make a few accounts to automate with LLMs and Stable Diffusion with pro-Trump content just in case when I get time on the weekends.

And in case people think this is just propaganda, I can vouch for this as someone that lived in China for a few years as a foreigner and currently live in the UK.

Everyone does it, it's normal, even police do it… I am much more concerned about going afoul of the government here in the uk than back in china

I for one am really worried about the UK Digital Visa system. There are just so many ways it can break down

Airport WiFi - people can easily run deauth with aircrack-ng. Email server might be down Phone out of battery Etc

If I was Russian, sure. I think it’s best to always use exit nodes/proxies in geopolitically opposed countries to prevent collaboration between states. E.g. use western VPNs while in China, use Russian/Chinese tunnels in the west.

XMR -> other crypto -> fiat. Send your Monero around a few wallets and the government will know you have Monero but not the origin. There are probably alternatives to LocalMonero WIP

I completely disagree. Military service should be voluntary considering the risks and long term mental health effects.

If my country ever implements conscription, the first thing I’m doing is getting another country’s citizenship at all cost, maybe the “enemy”’s out of spite.

After moving to the UK, it has been my policy to pretend to see nothing.

During my first week in university, I found a vulnerability in two of their servers allowing me to execute arbitrary code/commands + escalate to root due to a very outdated kernel.

I reported this to a lecturer and was immediately told that what I did was illegal and not to poke at any of their services. Last I checked, it still hasn’t been fixed.

This is not new at all. I did this 2-3 years back to find the phone number of some teachers/classmate with some random open source tool on GitHub.

My god this is an ignorant take. They were lucky to be born in a safe country. I am happy for them. Children do not choose where they are born. They did not choose to be in the way.

I was gonna stay neutral in my wording but it irritates me how war crimes can just be brushed away with “Well, they should’ve just been born in ‘Murica instead”

Killing people that “happen to be in the way” is actually a war crime FYI. Should that be changed?

Are you saying that the 30% children are also terrorists?

I’ve heard people argue that the intent is unclear when over 60% of the death toll in Gaza are civilians.

I have obviously never been involved in war so I’m not sure if that’s normal.

> destroyed absolutely without question or hesitation

I think the concern is this line. Israel is trying to “destroy absolutely without question” Hamas but at the same time “accidentally” targeting civilians and “incite terror” amongst Palestinians.

At least that’s the view of some people that support Palestine.

In this case, it might not be clear who the terrorists are.
