At what point does this logic stop? I see it all the time to justify taxes, but I'm sorry I think there is an upper bound of justifiable tax and a 40% exit tax certainly seems egregious.
I enjoyed your point about credentialism. If anyone is looking for a good primer on the issue read the "Occupational Licensure" chapter of Capitalism and Freedom by Milton Friedman.
I can't understand what people actually have against capitalism. Most of the times when I hear about the problems of my generation much of it comes down to personal choice. You don't have to go to an expensive college, you don't have to live in the "it" part of town, and you don't have to use your credit card. I've heard so many people complain about the injustices of the world, but at the same time they pay twice as much for rent as me and have 1/3 the income. I have trouble feeling sympathy when you could just make better choices and improve your life without asking the government to come in and take care of you.
It's only okay to discuss left-leaning policies at work. I'm libertarian leaning and keep my mouth shut because if I said how I felt about half of the things my co-workers discuss I would be ostracized.
> “If we don’t invent a new capitalism, absurd economic solutions will win over and sweep us straight into recession,’’ Le Maire said in an interview late last month.
This reminds me of the famous quote by F. A. Hayek:
> The curious task of economics is to demonstrate to men how little they really know about what they imagine they can design.
Most people I know that wake up early do so to serve themselves, not capitalism. If you go to the gym you're doing that for the health benefits and you know you're less likely to make an excuse and not go after work if you just get it out of the way in the morning. If you wake up earlier to enjoy a nice breakfast it's so that you are fully energized throughout the day. If you go to work earlier it's so that you can better your life by increasing income or getting that promotion you want. Not everything is some conspiracy about our capitalist overlords. Capitalism has alleviated more poverty than any economical system, so I don't understand the need for constant demonization.
It's not like capitalism was just put here by someone, it's how free humans will interact by default. The idea that it can be "replaced" is one of the most asinine that I've ever heard. Even in places that have tried to practice something different capitalism has still existed in the way of black markets and has always emerged as king.
