Before i was hired i went through around 150+ rejections. Every time i would go for an interview or interview candidates in my current role as technical team lead.
I will seriously wish for some resources which can teach me and others about the full interview process. what to do and what not to do. What kind of questions to prepare and what not to prepare.
And moreover a self assessment tool which can tell me how good i am as a developer from the interview perspective.
Yes, it is good idea to add those small projects. More relevant they are to the job. More points for you. By not adding those. People reading your resume will wonder what you have been doing in this period?
You can also add some of your personal or side projects as well.
The idea is to show them that you were somehow active during this period, either by doing small gigs, or by doing your own stuff or even by reading books or taking online courses.
Your emotional connection to your dream of “Getting the job” will be the no.1 indicator of your success.
You should be willing to do whatever it takes to pursue your dream. Get yourself ready to go to extreme lengths to ensure its fulfillment.
The stronger the emotional connection, the higher the chances of your success will be.
It’s horrible to have no dream.
It’s horrible to have a dream and then not to pursue it.
It’s even more horrible to pursue your dream half-heartedly and then failing to achieve it.
Then it was all for nothing.
You either need to go all in or just kill your dream. But in any case, it’s only you the commander of your dream responsible for its success or failure.
According to a recent research recruiters spend around seven seconds in reviewing an individual resume.
That’s it, all you have is seven seconds to attract attention or your CV will be rejected.
To free yourself from the fear of rejection. You must work backward. You start with the perception of the interviewer. What job you are applying for and what he might be expecting.
You accept his short attention span. You think ahead about what to present and most importantly in which order.
And if you are able to present the right things in the right order. Then the readers will pay attention to your CV. Not always (so you can’t be. disappointed) but most of the time.
Here are the five most important things recruiters look for in a CV in first seven seconds.
1- Recent Role: Is candidate's most recent experience relevant to the position for which they are hiring.
2-Keywords: If they are looking for an iOS Engineer, for example, and the words "iOS" or "Objective-C" don't even make a cameo appearance in someone's resume. It will be an instant rejection.
3-Experience:Is there a career progression? Does the person have increasing levels of responsibility? Do the titles make sense?
4-Projects: If the candidate has worked on any projects related to the job
5-Formatting: This includes spelling, grammar, ease of use, ability to clearly present ideas on CV.
Yes, exactly, society has forced us to think low and expect less from ourselves.
And i personally have found this, As the only key for all the failures in my life. But the moment i realized this, And started to think differently things started to change drastically.
99% of the candidates end up getting rejected in job interviews. And all of them think that it is because they are not good enough, and they lack the experience, skills or education to get that job.
But getting rejected has nothing to do with your skills, experience or education.
The no.1 reason for your failure in interviews is your mindset.
We live in a culture, Where we are taught to keep our head down. To Follow the rules. To be humble and to think low of ourselves.
But If you think low of yourself. If you are unsure of your skills,It is reflected in your words, it is reflected in your answers. And it is reflected in how you carry yourself.
So in order to avoid the fate of 99% other candidates. You should not accept the roles that society makes you to believe. You need to Recreate yourself by forging a new identity one that commands attention
and never bores the interviewers.
You must become the master of your own image rather then letting interviewers define it for you.
Thus the best way to avoid rejection, Is to shift your mindset, And to recreate the image of yourself you have in your own mind.
As the great Bruce lee once said
“Defeat is a state of mind; no one is ever defeated until defeat has been accepted as a reality.”
I was rejected 150+ times before i get my first job offer as a software developer.
