Most innovative and disruptive (and generally just profoundly interesting) company that hardly anyone knows about in the grand scheme of things.

Econ professor espousing on the stock market lol. As someone with a couple dumb fancy Econ degrees and whose career has been quite good in the stock market, this comment made me laugh.

One framework I like to use is, “If this thing didn’t exist today, and someone proposed it, how would people react to it?”

I think it’s fair to say that if none of this existed today, and someone proposed that the federal government simply give universities like Harvard seemingly endless billions, it would be laughed out of existence by republicans and democrats alike. All of this is the product of inertia at best, corruption at worst. It’s a different world today and we don’t need our tax dollars going to these places.

This is so stupid.

Is this isn’t the top comment I’ll be sad.

How about make it so that the "hidden" photos on a phone require a security code/biometric to access? I've always been shocked that this isn't the case with iOS (don't know Android), it seems so obvious and simple.

My point is partly, let's check in a year from now. I'd wager not one of your coworkers switched. Zero.

Seriously I'm just tired of it. Do you know how many tech geeks over the last few years have proudly proclaimed online that the company is "going downhill" and they'll never buy any more Ubiquiti products? 50 billion, that's how many. How many follow through? Evidently zero. It's comical. The hack obviously not good, but GMAFB.

Ubiquiti is another one of these companies where if you did nothing but read about them on HN, Reddit, et al, you would think they're filing for bankruptcy tomorrow, set orphanages on fire, kill puppies, etc. The negative hyperbole around this company is something else, hack or not. And yet, all they do is thrive...

Peloton has better legs than most, but the reality is that every fitness craze has eventually died whether it’s equipment (eg Bowflex) or method (eg Tae Bo). It’s just human nature, this and diet (eh Atkins) aren’t sustainable things with how most people are wired. Peloton will fade one day just like all the others before it as people inevitably get bored with it and doing it becomes a drag.

Oh lordy, no wonder this thread got partially shut down. Calling a pack of murdering religious extremists irrational now classifies as the most dangerous thing that can be said about the situation - yikes. Did I invade your safe space?

They did not terrorize citizens, they murdered them in the name of their non-existent god. Life will go on in Paris just as it did in New York. There is no goal other than blood lust and grim spectacle. All because of their nonsense and yes, irrational religion.

It is only "rational" within an irrational construct, such as extreme religious devotion.

You are trying to rationalize with people who are irrational. They don't reconcile. It sucks. It's depressing.
