Nothing interesting to see there unless you like spending time watching over energetic delusional patients chating with each other in a psychiatric hospital.
This gives an impression all software engineers have some model in their head of complex ever changing systems they work on, that actually fits in that head and stays up to date at the rate at which the software system changes.
The larger and more complex a project gets cognitive limits get hit whether you use AI or not. Do people then just do what someone else more experienced tells them to do? Yes.
Cause who likes to be held responsible for anything unpredictable happening in the universe that trips up your changes?
Theory of Bounded Rationality and its recommendations apply everytime any kind of limit is hit.
Cost. Cost to spam and scam tends to 0 at industrial scale. Meanwhile amount of time and resources telco want to spend on fighting it is Bounded by how much regulators are going to allow them to pass on to customers.
Well no one gets a free pass for too long. If prices rise consumers hold politicians responsible. Its just that the feedback loop plays out at different rates for the corps, cronies, politicians.
They wont dominate anything. They already are feeling pressure none of them are trained to handle.
The UN/UNESCO/Pope etc have all been talking about it for a year or two now. We are slowly going to see the appearance of something called a Digital Public Good.
Its like a road/railroad/transmisson line builder trying to decide who, where and when people will use those object. Guess what? Through out history that delusion gets shat on.
The platforms produce too much content. Flooding the field as Steve Bannon calls it.
When Supply vastly exceeds Demand what else is going to happen? Systems start destablizing. After costs multiply some one will start building dams to control the flood.
Its not a static system. Things will swing back and forth like a pendulum. And through those oscillation we move forward. Diff today is everyone is getting their heads filled 24x7 with a whole lot of info their grandparents never had to digest about how the system moves.
Not a new problem. If you look at Power sector history world wide if they waited for investors to show up 3/4th of the world wouldnt be electrified. Once something is considered strategic and required even 30 or 50 years from now there are lot of existing ways to amortize costs and get things rolling. Things will move in the backgtound whatever the vote count is saying.
Also the law is not static. Things can go back and forth. Out of phase with whatever trends in news cycles. Watch the Germans debating Nuclear phase out over 30 years.
Look at how a utlity works, in setting price specifically, for things that are considered a public good. The story is not about how much profit or revenue they make. Its about how do you keep it afloat and expanding in the coming year. Thats it.
Death is only interesting if confronting it causes prime directive shift: how to survive?(which people recite subconciously on loop) changes to, why to survive?
Drivel. Of the worst kind because there is no solution being proposed to what parents and teachers have to deal with daily. Just rubbish about oh no we are aligned with Darth Vader in taking on a mindless Empire.
Social Media is built on very weak info theoretical foundations. It will run into self created quagmires because of that lack of solid foundation in info/comms theory.
Saying the platforms can fix it is totally disconnected from what Information Theory has taught communication engineers for 100 years now.
Please remember one thing if nothing else - Social Media gave everyone Broadcast capability (1 to all messaging). In the past if you wanted to Broadcast every great thought that comes out of a 3 inch chimp brain to the entire planet, you had to stick a giant anatenna on your roof. Claude Shannon proved to us if everyone does that we get interference and noise. People who dont know any theory will then spend 24x7 reapeating their messages or broadcasting at higher and higher power to be heard. What happens? It all just increases noise.
This is exactly what social media produces. Huge noise and constantly shifting focus just to give everyone a feeling that the system is doing something useful when we all cant remember what even got attention yday.
It is a system that theory says cannot work unless there is a coordinating mechanism about who gets to broadcast. This is why we have licensed radio spectrum. No one complains about that because that is the coordinating mechanism. If there is none and illusion of broadcast is given to everyone noise, confusion, constantly shifting attention is the result.
Best insights can be over rated due to bandwith limitation of the brain. Even if Einstein is sitting next to you the whole day and helping out Theory of Bounded Rationality applies.
Its not above being "Technical" but what kind of business probs you have experience with/deal with day to day. That decides what ceilings are.
If you spend your whole day working on cockpit software or a telco stack or power plant scada system market of who you sell your stuff too/what problems you are exposed to is niche.
Whats is always interesting about monestic life and its emergence (minus light sabers) is that society across cultures has created spaces for people who dont fit. This need has been recognized and supported for thousands of years.
