People have been saying this for years. However, none of the other players have built a compelling product with widespread appeal or adoption. The E-Tron? iPace? Taycan? All have been more or less dead on arrival from an adoption and sales standpoint.
Honda announced recently that they will be focusing on hybrid technology, not full electric. Toyota is backing their Hydrogen Fuel Cell technology. GM has the Bolt, a single full-electric offering. The Model 3 doesn't really have any meaningful competition at the moment IMO. Tesla has forced the industry to change and from where I'm standing no competing product has managed to holistically match the value proposition Tesla brings.
I recently bought a camera lens from Amazon. It was listed as new, but when I received it, the lens caps for both the front and back were missing, the packaging was dirty, and so was the lens. It was obviously not new.
When I started speaking with customer support, I told them that the manufacturer had listed the lens caps as included accessories on the item's listing. The support agent told me that I didn't buy it from the manufacturer, I bought it from Amazon, so there was no guarantee for everything being included. They then went further and advised me that they personally only buy items like this from a retail store for this reason. I was flabbergasted that Amazon's own support team was telling me not to shop on Amazon.
This was one of the worst experiences I had ever had on Amazon, I returned the item and purchased it for a premium from B&H.
I just got a 2018 BMW 2 series and it's the best system I've personally used outside of a Tesla. It has a mobile connection so it can find POIs very quickly. It's surprised me many times when I've asked it to navigate somewhere.
I'm sure the recent crop of Audis and Mercedes are the same. The German brands seem to be finally getting on the voice assistant train with a "Hey Mercedes" or "Hey BMW" cue.
Came here to post this. Now I know where they got their inspiration! Though, ironically enough, I always got the vibe that that city from the first game was more like Singapore.
The Volt has something called "maintenance mode", which starts the engine about every 4-6 weeks, and does a process a little more involved every few months or so to burn gas that would go bad.
As a Solutions Engineer, we always want to conduct a "discovery" session so we can tailor a demo to your context. Otherwise we don't know what is interesting to you and we are effectively throwing darts blindly hoping to hit close to what matters.
My work laptop is a 2017 15" MBP. I was able to get a 4k external monitor and it definitely felt sluggish. That's when I realized the $70 multiport dongle that apple sells cannot do 4k at 60hz, and so I was seeing 4k 30hz. Had to get a dedicated Displayport to USB-C cable and now it seems to be fine.
I haven't had too many issues with performance. Few crashes here and there. The keyboard is more of an issue for me when dust gets under the keys. I don't mind the giant trackpad as I feel it gets palm rejection right most of the time.
By far the worst part of this computer is the touchbar. It's useless. I can't fathom what Apple was thinking making this required for all higher end Macbooks. The only thing I use it for is the volume slider, and occasionally buffering songs on Spotify. Other than that the ESC key is horrendous and it has no utility for me over standard keyboard hotkeys/fn buttons.
I ended up looking it up after I posted, and you're right! Plans also include going all the way to the Santa Clara Caltrain station, surprisingly. Maybe by 2030.
Yes, as someone who commutes to SF from the South Bay, it's depressing how our public transport compares to other major cities.
BART needs to just go around the Bay Area entirely in a loop, or Caltrain needs to become more efficient. Hopefully electrification will help in this regard.
I'm 26, and I just bought a 2 bed 1 bath 850 sqft condo in Santa Clara for 570k.
My payments are insane, basically 4k a month. I'm able to get by because my wife works too so we aren't entirely living hand to mouth.
Since I bought in June, an identical condo in the same complex sold for around 600k.
It really burns when you consider that even in Sacramento you could probably get a full sized single-family home for what I paid...just at the cost of being further away from work.
I've been living in the Bay Area since I was 7, and I've almost been priced out of it. Does not feel good.
Had I taken this course when I was 18, I surely would have gone for a CS degree.
