you can't trust org members either I have seen projects have inter maintainer fallouts. In general trust doesn't exist.

If companies can screw you over and claim it's a mistake, there isn't much a person can do.

It's all about level's of trust, a maintainer going rogue is less likely, a past contributor going rogue more likely but not too much, a stranger with a typo pr merged even more likely but still, a complete stranger least trust worthy.

I couldn't parse all of it, but largely I honestly think software is a sum of it's details you write better software the more details you add to the picture while maintaining simplicity. The art of software is balancing the two.

You can also find this in science, I feel like software is about finding the Gauss’s law for the dozens of electrostatic principles the masses keep coming up with.

AI strips away the need for simplicity by making brute forcing details via verbosity that ruins the need for "good" software, and makes all software by definition unmaintainable since maintainable product as a unit has to be simple enough for a LLM or a human mind to understand.

Currently a human context window is in 100s of billions of tokens, while LLMs seem to max out at 1M.

For anyone thinking but humans can't produce all of the text verbatim, that's the difference b/w humans and machines we can parse and take the most essential parts from 100B token context it's just are speed of prefil and recall is slower. And we memoize learning so if we know X then all variants of X are learnt on the same foundation.

Human learning is so very different from LLMs is so very fascinating as a trad "AI engineer", well some person who has worked and built/shipped ai agents and models at scale.

Just to be clear, I spent Billions of tokens last month, dick'ing around with AI, do I think it can do my job, sure if I was as checked out as I am feeling being mandated to only use AI for work...

Trust me this version of me can't write code better than an LLM. I think even the LLMs from 2 years ago could do as much.

Only thing we have solved with LLMs is how to generate code, as in literally converting what you type in as text into something somewhat working. Fixing the details is impossible for AI.

Today and beyond.

Alright I will like to ask you for the exact steps for every language other than steam DLL swtichroo which can easily proofed against.

It's not as trivial to crack for a relatively non invasive and easy to enable feature.

Denuvo is hardly uncrackable there's a big reason Rockstar went to their own anti piracy tools.

Seeing unhinged takes about Denuvo shilling on HN is nutz. Honestly well what I would expect from folks here.
cermicelli
·vor 2 Monaten·discuss
Unhinged take I checked that was 2013 and the game cost almost as much as you you would pay in a month's rent in India in small towns.

Most pirates aren't people who could pay for this stuff. This is utterly meaningless.

So much in fact I don't even want to link counter examples to it.

No/very few paying user pirates even single player games these days if they can afford it as a luxury please understand that.

I would likemy regular updates bug fixes patches and new feaures ASAP. And on sale at 8$ for a game is less than 0.01% of my income so sure.

But if it costs 800 USD I will get it for free because I am literally too poor for it.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is beyond deluded.

Instead of denuvo you can use simple steam drm, non trivial to pirate for small games cracks will take days or weeks to appear and updates won't be available instantly.

It's safe simple and easy. And doesn't hurt any one.

Denuvo is just invasive bullcrap that deluded people think helps anyone.

Yeah then it would be mouths to feed, there is always a greater crisis than the one you are facing. And this is the entire reason folks are willing to work for peanuts, I have worked for 1$ an hr, and 100$ an hr. Sure I was less skilled but I wasn't 100x less skilled.

The difference is my desperation for the job. I had to pay for my studies back when 1$ an hour seemed like more than nothing.

Now working for less than 50$ feels like being exploited. This is the matter of perspective and situation in life, you can never fix it for everyone in the world. There will always will be people like me who will work for 1$ an hour because they have needs to meet and scholarships or handouts don't make up for it all.

Can we just, I mean just stop using and caring about most social media. Especially facebook, it offers no meaningful value. It's slow, obtuse and haven't made life better for anyone in the last decade I suppose.

Maybe whatsapp has some use, but otherwise what's even the point. I don't even have ads on whatsapp not yet anyways, I will get my family to switch when they do.

I don't care about you Meta/Facebook or whatever it is.

Finally someone putting in actual human effort to learn something, and not a LLM helped me build X in Y minutes.

There is some hope for humanity after all I suppose.

US has blocked merges of companies especially with Chinese and other non western companies. Including Japan, India etc.

For instance US Steel acquisition by Nippon Steel(japanese) is one such example. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2vz83pg9eo

More examples,

Ant Group(chinese) tried to buy MoneyGram (blocked in 2018) https://www.reuters.com/article/business/us-blocks-moneygram...

Xiamen Sanan Optoelectronics tried buying Lumileds, blocked again by US. Also Chinese ofc.

Broadcom and Qualcomm deal was also blocked, Broadcom was then Singapore based in process of moving to US I believe... (very sus happened in 2018 too, someone didn't pay Donald enough)

https://thediplomat.com/2014/02/india-inc-and-the-cfius-nati... Indian company forced to divest from US tech firm... (2013)

I am certain there must be European examples as well but smaller ofc, AI companies are over valued these days, most acquisitions were never this big in the olden days of pre 2020s...

I know for a fact that most folks don't want to invest in US for this reason other than in public equities or bonds ofc. Private foreign investment in US has been high only due to European pensions and Middle-eastern money going into it.

I don't know about how fair, far, or right it was compared to these were, detaining founders is also not confirmed, but sure let's assume it's true still...

Only difference in US is perhaps foreign folks can sue over it. Sometimes, if they are lucky and if the deal is worth it.

I find it strange people of HN being based in US can be so ill informed of what their country, does to foreign companies but be mad about things foreign companies do to them?

I mean sure rest(96%) of the world doesn't really exist, it's but a myth or a land the better folks of US only want to take value when needed?

Unsure what this comment meant, this has happened before as well btw, these are just post 2010s examples because they are relevant. Russians and US used to do this too, India and US were worse of pre-2000s, Japan and US were at their throats in 1980s, in terms of trade and acquisition...

I think you didn't understand I didn't mean tax income literally I meant tax everything ala wealth. No private ownership beyond your home and a set of vehicles for transport.

Now if you are saying there won't be any wealth in the post AI era, sure there might just be power or energy then we will tax that, 90% of energy generated is owned by populace they get to use it sell it or whatever.

Imagine if humans had control over energy that machines/AI needed for production, then can't they just ask AI to do work to feed, cloth and help humans?

Only way UBI works is if the govts increase taxes on all income or any income to almost 90%+...

And then re-distribute to each person accordingly. That ain't happening, no govt will be willing to try that, and rich won't let that happen, they will become slightly rich from very rich. that just ain't happening.

I don't understand why is everyone at war, I don't understand anything, I really just feel depressed. Don't feel like anyone cares what you think whether you live in US, EU, or somewhere else. It's all bomb this guy, bomb that guy these days.

I don't really have anything constructive to add, but hope folks in US realize just how insane all this is. Like can we just not have wars, like pretty please anything but more bombs and killing...

Like what happened to the walls folks in US were building a while ago, can we fund another, I will donate a 100$ if we wrap up all this shit this week. Heck if Russia and other countries pack it up I will add another 100$ to it...

Does that work, does anything work? ._.

Let's do something productive, honestly AI slop is more productive than this. I still can't wrap my head around this nonsense.

I am 25 I don't wanna know a world at war, just a few hundred more years of peace please, then you folks can feel free to go to war with Zurgs or something with your AGI drones...

Amazon now has just as much invested in OpenAI, as much as Microsoft most likely.

Given Anthropic is also funded by them, either they are desperate to not lose or they really don't think Anthropic has a moat.

Let's all boycott Google folks, I want all of HN to band together and in solidarity just not use Google for anything...

Let's see if anyone here has the guts to even switch away from GCP, scratch that can folks even move away from Apple(Apple pays for Gemini too) and Android?

I do think OpenAI deserves the boycott but people talking about Anthropic as they were taking some kind of ethical stand when it was just ego tripping for everyone involved is insane.

Anthropic has private ownership from a bunch of foreign investors GIC and MGX for one.

Not saying this action is correct or not but Anthropic has no reason to decline Chinese investment if they could get it. Neither does openAI.

It's insane people consider private companies should have free speech.

When they can't and aren't willing to do the same for private citizens. People being shot on streets didn't see any court cases?

I find hn to be quite brain dead in terms of what it chooses to care about.
