We generally believe that sexual exploitation of children is worse than of an adult. We don’t allow for consensual sexual relations, creation or mere posesion of explicit material with a child.
In fact drawings of said material can get you in a lot of trouble in many, liberal, countries.
That being said, I hate what the internet has become.
No. Moving from SF to NYC is not easier than moving to the Central Valley. The difficulties are different.
When I was six we moved to the easiest place to move to: early 90s greater Toronto Area. No crime. Lots of jobs. Lots of good will from the natives. It was tough.
The Central Valley is ravaged by unique social issues. To dismiss the issues because it’s cheap to live there is insane.
It’s glass - it’a not pixie dust doped adamantium.
Metals arent particularly strong. Glass, plastics, etc are all stronger (yield strength). But boy are they ductile, and very tough. Iron can take, literally, an infinite number of loading cycle.
You can make ceramics, glass, etc better but the overall performance package of iron is very hard to beat.
If I were to dismiss SpaceX as 1950s technology with modern electronics and engine technology the soviets mastered in the 60s would you be annoyed?
So why dismiss the truck manufacturing industry? Semis are very thought out solutions for their domain.
A PhD is literally )as in that’s what the abbreviation stands for ) a license to teach. It’s origins are exactly in training people to pass the torch of knowledge.
Look at the Greats, or even professors until the 50s, they only had at most 6 grad students their entire career.
Many modern professors have as many students a year.
No, it doesn’t. It refers to the executive. Whenever we complain about the poor quality of government, (the VA, DMV,) we’re complaining about an organ of the executive (be it federal, state or municipal).
I’d reread all senior citizens yearly. I don’t care why they drive.
Fun cab stories:
I had a cab driver on a van do 120 km/h (75mph) on an offramp I do at 60kph in a sedan.
I had to teach a cab driver how to drive on snow/ice once. As we drive on i75 (in fairness this was in Atlanta, and I grew up in Canada)
I had a (private) driver reek of alcohol
A (private) cab driver in BsAs doing long division on a piece of paper on the freeway (we had an argument over some math I did in my head)
A cab driver in the Andes had a wadfull of coca in his mouth.
Of the half dozen Greek cab rides, only one didn’t give me the run around. (I tipped him the full fare, and he refuse it until I told him it was for his honesty)
But the main reasons I go on an Uber is because the drivers in any city I’ve been in have been maniacs, while (in my experience) Uber/lyft drivers are the calmest, most restpectful drivers on the road.
The fact that some venture capitalist is bankrupting themselves subsidizing the trip is a gift that keeps on giving.
Must be nice to worry about the messenger. I’ll worry about the toxins DuPont dumped in the local water or the lead leeching from my tap.
But hey, I can afford to boil pasta with bottled water, so who cares?
