It could but only if you connected one of them to the HDMI port. The M2 allows to connect both over USB-C. One of the M1 display controllers is hardwired to a DP output which goes to the screen on laptops and iMacs and to a DP->HDMI converter on the Mac mini. The controller isn't hardwired anymore since the M2, only the output is.

The M2 MacBooks should also get that because the hardware supports it. The M2 Mac mini allows to connect 2 displays over USB-C if you don't use the HDMI port.

The 2 display limitation is for the base model Mx. The Mx Pro supports 3 displays and the Max 5. All three numbers are for internal+external displays.

I don't think many people use a laptop with an external display without closing the lid. Laptops are terrible for ergonomics and the only solutions are using a stand with a separate keyboard and mouse or closing the lid and using it like a desktop. In both cases the built-in keyboard and trackpad aren't being used.

The MBA still can't handle more than 2 displays, though. It only supports 2 displays when it's closed.

Unfortunately it isn't. There are only two display controllers in the M1/2/3 and that can't be worked around in software. MST won't work in Asahi Linux because it's not present in the hardware. It worked on x86 Macs because the GPU supported it.

Stop making stuff up, just because your wife doesn't hate russians doesn't mean that all Ukrainians don't.

I said that everyone in Ukraine supports my opinions, because I, unlike you, know what's going on in Ukraine. You have no clue about Ukraine or the opinions of Ukrainians. Who doesn't believe their opinions are right? Even if you don't, that doesn't make me 'the problem'. Why the quotes around russia supporter? A very small part of Ukrainians support russia, some even collaborate with them. I'm not claiming that everyone that doesn't share my opinions is a russia supporter, just saying that every Ukrainian that isn't a russia supporter hates russians because of the oppression and murder of Ukrainians by russia for many centuries and the war raging right now. I'm not sure about this mode requiring special Apple firmware, but it definitely does not use 6 lanes of HBR3: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/caldigit-introduces-usb....

I don't think Thunderbolt ever uses anything other than 4 lanes per DP connection if the GPU doesn't limit the lane count, because Thunderbolt deserializes DP packets, transmits them over the link and serializes them back on the other end, so it can't negotiate the lane count on the host side.

The display still supports USB 3 even without DSC, because all USB data gets sent over PCIe in Thunderbolt 3. The USB controller in the Titan Ridge doesn't downgrade the ports to USB 2.0, but because 1.8 Gbps is much lower than the USB 3 bandwidth, Apple says it doesn't support USB 3 on models without DSC.

The russians have been oppressing and killing Ukrainians for over 300 years, 1991-2014 was just a small pause. Nazi Germany, on the other hand, existed for only 12 years, and Germany is very different now, and most soldiers that fought in WW2 are dead. russians keep doing horrible things since a very long time ago and hating them is completely justified until russia is denazified and becomes a normal country. People like Ivan the Terrible, stalin, putin wouldn't keep coming to power if something wasn't very wrong with the russian nation, and by the way russia consists of many different nations that were subjugated by muscovites. russia has a much longer history of pure evil and that's why I consider most russians evil. While killing all of them is wrong, they should be occupied and reeducated, and never allowed to have a large military and nukes ever again. Given the low population density of russia, most of its sparsely populated lands should be shared between all countries to provide living space for billions of people that isn't affected by global warming.
