The agent will happily fix that for them. They are through like that.

But what would we consider conscious?

My position is that there is no actual, definitive answer to that question, and therefore it makes no sense engaging with the concept.

I can make an AI system with a survival instinct right now. Of course, all that will do is make people tell me “it’s not a proper survival instinct” or move the goal posts and tell me I need yet some other property.

This whole endeavor is doomed from the beginning. There is no crucial test for “consciousness”, just ad hoc criteria people come up with to land on the conclusions that leave their belief system intact.

Consciousness is not a concept that can be rendered operational.

That’s fair. I’ll delete.

You can’t forget to take class W mnestics. Not unless someone prevents you from taking them.

All the stores I can get to within a reasonable time period stock ISO keyboards instead of ANSI, and I've never really warmed up to those. So I'm stuck with next-day even for macs.

As an aside, I have never seen a decent license for user generated content. Either they expose the platform to serious liability, or they come across as incredibly predatory.

Wait, what's the story of the sailboat trip? My searches are coming up empty, but it sounds like a great story.

The north sea is 34 grams per litre. The Mediterranean is 38. For my pasta I use 10, and that's on the high end.

Honestly? I think they are just rationalizing away their respective midlife crises.

Again, you are ignoring the identity based systems they describe, that have been in place for centuries before either of them were born.

You know which ones I mean.

The guys closing polling places in black neighbourhoods? The guys denying women and trans people healthcare?

Identity politics has always been a conservative project.

It’s 500k people for over a decade. If any study has the data to do it, it’s this one.

Not to downplay the dilemmas we face today, it seems to me that the main problem is that the machine is too expensive, too complicated and too large to serve as a permanent heart/lung replacement.

We have an excellent record of making machines smaller, cheaper and simpler to operate. This machine will be the pacemaker of the future.

You generally enroll a passkey for a single device or connected group of devices. My icloud-syncing devices has a passkey. My windows laptop has another. My desktop has yet another. I have also enrolled my yubikey.

I could stop using my idevices tomorrow and not be negatively influenced.

Yes. But more importantly, there are lots of creators making excellent stuff for systems that are not compatible with their bullshit player option supplements.

No Steve, you cannot be extra-planar half-staplerkin half-mongoose demi-lich paladin/sorcerer with a lemming patron. I don't care what Tasha's Bulging Cupboard of Crap or Volo's Yard-sale of Absolutely Everything has to say about it.

BTW, I detest PDF for online use. It looks great, but the typesetting never matches whatever screen I'm using. If it's going to go paperless, the RPG industry needs to evolve beyond "let's pretend this is paper".

For me the naive part is focussing on player options.

I understand that groups generally have one DM and 4 players, do if you include player options you might sell 5 books instead of one. But that's the shallow, cash-in-now-fuck-next-decade mentality.

Meanwhile they haven't put out a decent adventure in a decade. The internet is awash with people trying to glue their ramblings back into coherent campaigns and running D&D (always a huge time sink) is becoming a worse experience every year as they keep flooding the market with crap.

I love running games but I've come to the point where I'm not really interested in starting a D&D group anymore because of all the bullshit.

WOTC: support your DMs or die.
