I do the same with 99. Much of it has three lanes now so less issues being stuck and mad passing by others. Ass in the chance for more stops along the way. My cutoff is LA area, I'll drive there, but fly to San Diego.

Started off in games development and assembly language, then through data backup and back up communication systems. 30 years in the business, just recently failed a screen coding test call because I blanked on find string pairs question. Just couldn't think for a minute. During the normal day, look it up, slap head and go on.

To the whole Github thing, just had this happen.

Got a call from a recruiter from an company I interviewed with a year ago. We couldn't make things work then, but in the words of the recruiter, "Everyone loved you and we have new spot that you fit perfect".

Fortunately for them I open right now so I say I'll be glad to talk to them, and he says he'll get right back.

Next day I get an email from someone at the company, saying before they move to the phone screen he has a couple of questions. What's my Stackoverflow presence, my Github, and what Coursera course have I taken.

Never heard back in over a week since I replied negatively about those items.

Going to call the recruiter tomorrow to let him know he has at least one person now that doesn't love me.

According to wiki https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sukhoi_Su-27, there are two in private ownership in the US. It's been in service since the mid-80s so not so new, and not surprisingly available outside Russia.

Have spent the last few years involved with data collection and master data projects. Prior to that, a number of years with manufacturing support systems (more data collection in there as well) In the middle of that was a software startup, and running my own side consulting service.

I took a year off in my 20's for spiritual pursuits and volunteer work. Best thing I ever did, it wasn't well planned and on a shoestring. If I could do over I would have done the finances differently. I cam back to software, but with a much different outlook and world view.

For a couple of longer term customers I charge $145/hr.

I'm working a full time gig now and haven't taken on any additional work in ages, but depending on contract length I would start at $170 and up.

As I've seen posted here and elsewhere if you're experienced and charge less than yearly salary/2080 * 3 you are giving money back.

(My wife worked as a buyer at one of the national labs and had to purchase contractors, should used to have to tell them what to ask for because more often than not it would be too low for her to quote them out.)

Terrible teachers making difficult subjects impossible for students.

It's the same experience for my kids that I recall from my time. Industry can pay more, and outside the rare person who has come to teaching to give back, the instructors are those who can't.

Even when I was at Cal Poly, the only instructors in eng/sci who I recall being helpful were those from JPI that would come in and teach a class or two. One taught us three classes worth of material in course when he realized how much we had missed from our previous instructors.

I'm scoutmaster for my son's troop and this is one of the foundations for the BSA Patrol Method.(It's also talked about in lots of other leadership trainings) Once you move out of 6-8 in a group things break down quickly.

You also hinted at servant leadership. As a leader my goal to make sure the folks in the group have what they need to get the job done.

There are still management details, plans, schedules, budgets and what not. But, that's a separate thing from leadership.
