> Mathematics is best learned under the guidance of a mentor.
I disagree. The most important thing is curiosity.
For math, you need to think, question, and play with the concepts. It is much more active than just reading. Develop an intuition by seeing what happens when you maximize or minimize a parameter. Think about the consequences if something were different. Try to derive relations for fun.
This also applies to music and code.
If you figure out how things work on your own, you will retain it far better than going through the motions mechanically.
It is certainly the case in the Central Valley in California. I got great wine grapes for $1/pound as well and wonderful organic persimmons for that same price. However, that area has a bunch of actual farmers.
I have a network of conservative tech friends in Seattle and coordinate with various pro-Trump tech individuals around the country.
I think from the comments on here (many done under unattributable usernames) it is clear to see why most stay far under the radar. There is a very real fear of negative career consequences in the tech industry for having views that are mainstream in broad swathes of the country that so enables the tech industry's success.
While some blowback may be manageable for someone with demonstrable skills and few longterm commitments, it has a chilling effect for those with families and mortgages.
And for those who think that none of their peers voted for the US president, I can tell you that you are likely mistaken. For those that think that conservatives can't innovate or fit into the tech industry, I counter that there are very successful people all over the industry, but given that there is little upside and high risk to mentioning it publicly, it is understandable that one would have a different perception.
Mass reporting is a common censorship tactic on Facebook. There are Facebook groups of Muslim activists who mass report critics of the religion to trigger autobans.
One of my laptops is running with a counterfeit charger (Amazon) and a counterfeit battery (eBay). As soon as I realized that I have never left it plugged in where I don't see it - who knows what kind of fire hazard it could be.
Also, lasers. There are plenty of illegal laser pointers on eBay and output rarely matches the claims. And you really don't want to play with these illegal lasers unless you have real wraparound lenses.
For those who do not have the context, senior figures at The Times were caught on camera talking about ties to people associated with the Democrat Party and talking about working closely with an individual at YouTube to favorably curate their front page. This individual also discussed a close personal relationship with former FBI Director James Comey.
If you want to watch the videos for yourself, look up "Project Veritas", and you can see the footage that likely prompted this post.
> There is much to emulate at Apple — but not that almost 1:1 ratio of office to parking.
I don't know what the other options are. It is a humongous waste of productivity for employees to worry about whether or not they will have a spot that day. I know people at offices like that and they are certainly not happy.
If you don't think Infowars is a serious news outlet, maybe you haven't watched them? In about 20 years they have had I think 3 retractions, which a propaganda rag like CNN or the Washington Post has to do weekly.
I would wish that HN would have more people who care about primary sources - that is what my academic training taught me. Perhaps if you listened to any of Bannon's speeches rather than malicious rumor and hearsay, you would have a different opinion.
Shiva is a great guy. I strongly encourage readers to watch or listen to him actually speak, rather than get that third-hand.
I'm glad that he won against Gawker and am cheering for him to defeat Elizabeth Warren for Senate. He is the kind of smart, wise, and experienced technocrat that we could use in government, with an actual numerical sense and experience staffing teams and making payroll.
I got added by someone else to a Facebook group that eventually went on a troll raid. I rarely go on Facebook and didn't even participate in any troll raids. Just from being in the group, my account was disabled. I have been locked out of my apps for three weeks and Facebook hasn't answered any appeal I sent them.
Why? I'm here and in other places with views counter to mine. There are a lot of tech for Trump folks that just keep their heads down at their jobs because they don't want the drama.
There are reasons to object to the accord that have nothing to do with a so-called "anti-science policy".
The actual wording of the accords has little to do with science and more to do with massive welfare obligations and handicapping the US economy with no requirements from China for decades.
Yep. I am in some tech and business world Slack groups where people were similarly ecstatic about the news. Getting out of your own filter bubbles from time-to-time is healthy.
No. There are many people with Jewish background who oppose his agenda. And he does not hide being rich or pushing unwanted agendas in the countries where his NGOs operate.
If the roles they are leaving are truly "in demand", the market will make up for it.
For perspective, that feeling of, "Wow! This place is different now" is what some of these same people were imposing on the locals.
This article seems like it was solely written to make Leave voters feel guilty and further shame them in the eyes of those who voted Stay. What else could be the point?
So what happens when all 10.5 million Somalians, 22.85 million Syrians, 24.41 million Yemenis, 33.42 millions Iraqis, 37.96 million Sudanese, 6.35 million Eritreans, 77.45 million Iranians, etc apply?
