This is a wild take. Most serious media companies would collapse without online ad revenue. Google would be dead, along with all the products that sorta run the world like maps. But even local publications, like your independent city news site, which you presumably think is good, also die instantly.

The ladder is also pulled up behind any kind of independent quality content producers. You cant run a successful channel without dedicated paid subscribers, and you can't build a dedicated subscriber base without years of work and supplementing your income with ads, so basically everything with an online audience also dies.

I will be using this to design local event posters.

Edit: I bought a copy and I'm having a blast!

Were most forums pushing the outer boundaries of acceptable speech online? Reddit mods make and enforce the rules. Reddit gets involved mainly when subreddits do borderline illegal stuff. Is this a real problem, or a hypothetical one?

I'm not aware of any "AI-driven engagement mechanism" for subreddits. You can sort by new, top, hot, best. Hot/Best are opaque heuristics, but they function reasonably and you aren't forced to use them. And for most communities, tags function as adequate topic groupings.

You're rewarded for participation with fake nonsense points, same as all the forums of yore.

Valid points. I was never a member of any forums with closed, invite-only registration, and I've never been part of a reddit community that had to deal with front page traffic or brigading, so I sort of assume this is the median experience.

The maker communities, music subs, and local/city subs I'm in do not have any of these problems.

I'm not sure I understand the difference between "crappy forums" and subreddits. They have all the same features. Tags function as sections. You can sort threads chronologically. Karma.

I suspect there's no actual difference, the author just liked the sort of people who were willing to deal with the traditional "crappy forum" interface for the sake of connecting around some niche hobby, and it provided enough friction to promote adherence to the community's culture.

There are just more people on the internet now. The problem always boils down to some version of Eternal September.

I read this post while sitting at Broken Clock Brewing here in Minneapolis, one of the 13 listed and my favorite brewery. There are actually 2 in my city. I actually picked up an ownership card and anyone can buy in for $200, but dividends don't start to pay out until some indefinite point where the voting owners decide the business can sustain it.

Could you say more about what you didn't like? This seems pretty indistinguishable from existing tools.

A C++ ray tracer from scratch was the course project for my computer graphics class in 2016. I enjoyed the exercise immensely. Not nearly as robust as yours of course.

They googled "meta down". This is the top result for that search.

Could you imagine? I know it won't happen but what if we get a statement that they suffered a catastrophic data loss and full service couldn't be restored for a week or something. It would be a modern miracle.

Not password managers of course, but thanks for reminding me that I should figure out how to ditch Authy.

https://github.com/BrenoFariasdaSilva/Authy-iOS-MiTM is going to be my project for the afternoon.

Name one major password manager that blocks or paywalls export.

·vor 2 Monaten·discuss
I think this is a little hyperbolic. The product may drop features, increase prices, and squeeze its free tier users. Everything enshittifies. But the idea that password export might disappear or be degraded? Nah. You'll be able to jump ship any time you want.

How you use the tool matters, yes. But the freedom to demonstrate and understand this weakness with watermarks is much more important to exercise than saying "shhhhh don't tell people about this".

The takeaway should be that watermarks aren't very reliable and you should keep your guard up anyway.

Checking openrouter (it's not available yet) and, uh, what's up with the spike in Qwen usage from early april here? https://openrouter.ai/qwen

Is this normal humans kicking the tires on a new model, or a few whales doing serious benchmarks?

Your soul is nourished by navigating congested traffic and searching for mundane stuff on the internet? That's not how mine works.

I have a Dell U3225QE with a built-in KVM and 2 macs.

One connects with Thunderbolt only. The other connects with Display Port for video and USB-C for the rest of the built-in dock.

It's OK most of the time with the nipple switch. My one piece of advice is *avoid HDMI*. I learned after getting this monitor that the HDMI protocol is a petulant unstable little shit that does not tolerate renegotiation well. Get yourself a USB-C to DisplayPort cable.
