oMLX[1] is the only one that comes to mind but it's not exactly unique to mac, it just runs MLX models and provides a nice gui. It does have the whole paged SSD KV cache thing, not sure if thats working on other platforms.

whos going to buy one? You cant trust them not to kill it within a few years and cease all software updates AND make it impossible to install a different OS to keep it going. Until they stop being dicks about what you can do with the hardware you own it's a non starter.

Around where? They're pretty popular for it in the UK right now given our obscene energy pricing as they end up being one of the best low power options for local llm. If you're not in the local llm space you obviously wouldn't see it. It's like saying Tennis isnt popular around here then admitting you dont frequent a tennis court so wouldn't even know.

Ugh yes agree, that Prusa one was a massive misstep.

Unless I'm missing something using this in a commercial application would be a license violation:

> Open Printer is distributed under the Creative Commons BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.

> This means that everyone is free to use, share, and modify the project, provided they credit the original author, share derivatives under the same license, and do not use it for commercial purposes.

It's also not opensource yet, there's a vague mention of "when its ready" it'll be released.

Not sure that counters their point...or even relates to it.

> But in many cases there are not any homegrown alternatives to support

There shouldn't need to be. Realistically for something like this an EU backed highly-audited non-profit should be in place for permanent highly controlled services like this that do not rely on any non-EU entities for it to function.

It's Apple, theres a high chance they'll just delete it and pretend it never existed. They've got a pretty consistent reputation for this now. Dark Sky, PrimeSense, Drive.ai, Beddit, Topsy, NextVR, Fleetsmith, FingerWorks, to name a few.

Unless you live in bumfuck nowhere theres zero reason to be subjecting yourself to a supermarket meal deal, we've got an overabundance of independent food places in towns in the uk.

Sure, lets ignore everything else. Keep that head buried deep in the sand.

I dont need to, as I said I'm on brave, which isnt losing its adblocker.

> The real question is whether SpaceX ownership improves Cursor or drives its users away.

I can't speak for anyone else but I wont be renewing my sub. Funding anything Musk related isn't exactly high up on my list of desires, and theres ample alternatives out there.

Yup still got it due to paying for a year up front, its still very decent, especially the newer composer 2.5 model, it's cheap and has a ton of usage included so works well as a general day to day tool.

> They are also buying 300-400 employees with proven record of training good coding models.

Are they? Their Composer 2.5 models is based on Kimi K2.5, it's not a bespoke model.

They technically have their own models as well, but they are based on other peoples models.

Most of this is just customers + staff/tech rather than models being acquired. Cursors actually got so much better in the last year. Their composer 2 model (a tweaked version of Kimi K2.5) is decent for day to day mundane tasks and the app can auto switch to more capable models when needed.

Just a shame its a tiny bit slower than chromium based browsers still (the ui, not the web page rendering), and you dont have to take my word for it, a web search for something like 'firefox sluggish compared to chrome' will back this up too as I've tried switching multiple times but always end up back on a chromium variant because the firefox ui just doesn't feel like an upgrade.

Personally I've just given up trying with firefox and I now put up with brave - its certainly not perfect but at least the ad blocker isnt about to break.

Sadly they raised theirs in march[1] and will probably have to do it again as the'll be in a fairly similar position.

This is Hetzner's third increase this year. Not seeing any sort of similar levels of recurring price hikes from the other big vps providers.

Getting close to losing any point of them existing. They were the cheap one. You take that away and their unique offering vanishes and makes them pretty pointless to even consider as a provider. Really hope they can sort out something for their hardware sourcing as this isn't sustainable.

Composer 1.x was poor. The new one is a totally different beast and absolutely fine for day to day.
