Definitely this 100% I proposed for company game night: Predict where the Jira cursor goes next in response to right arrow. There’s so many possibilities: right left up down, teleports, disappears. My favorite is when the cursor splits into two at two different seemingly unrelated locations. Two cursors?? How do you even do that in a text area?

I’m pretty sure that was pitched in an episode of Silicon Valley, except microwaves

I wonder if we'll see a difference liability insurance rates for Tesla owners vs. the others. If they're truly road-bound, OTA-distracted, undirected electric missiles, I'm sure we'll see a difference there before we hear back from NTSB.

I get all that, however I am saying that they’re being superstitious about it. I’ve been programming at least 20 years and thoroughly love programming in a dynamic language. My preferred being Common Lisp.

> The older I get, the more I appreciate dynamic languages. Fuck, I said it. Fight me.

I see this in myself also. Static typing is such a fever at work especially amongst juniors and mids. Sometimes it’s almost as if they believe object types will spontaneously change at runtime, unpredictability.

> front end AND back end AND... AND... AND... AND... AND... AND... Seriously, why are [full stack] webdevs paid so little.

Two reasons: 1. everyone calls themselves this these days, and 2. they are often quite weak in each of those parts of the “full stack”

> Second, JSON always had a parser in JS, so I don't know where that eval nonsense is coming from.

Firstly, it sounds like XML ran over your dog or something. Sorry to hear about that. It wasn’t particularly hard to use at all, and if you’re dealing with the possibility of emojis in your JSON UUIDs in 2021, one might even say it’s easier to use.

If you’re referring to JSON.parse() in “had a parser” above, then you have a temporal problem. Regarding eval(), it’s suggested right in the original RFC for JSON. Check it out. Web developers at the time were following that advice.

XML and XML Schema solved this more than 20 years ago. It had to be replaced with JSON by the web developers though, so they could just “eval() it” to get their data.

I’m glad this technique is making a comeback. The last 10 years of JavaScript on the client have been an utter shit show that left me wondering wtf people were thinking.

It’s brutal.

Good for you Shopify, but I fully expect you’ll switch to some new hotness in a year or two.
