Doesn't that depend on the religion though? Like evangelicals don't think human made global warming is real because humans can't alter gods creation. I think most people will accept the evidence as long as it doesn't go against some of their core beliefs (which can be expanded beyond religion). It's just that for a lot of scientific discoveries there is at least one group that refuses to accept it.

Does that $3 million also include the expertise needed to operate and maintain the machine? You also need to account for the money the hospital needs to save to buy a new one when the one they have becomes outdated. Still might not add up to the actual cost they charge for a scan but it would look a bit more reasonable. My guess is the different negotiated rates for insurance plus the low income policies make everything convoluted and add a decent amount of overhead. I wish they would stop this negotiating crap and charge whatever it costs for them to do a scan. At least then I will know how much it will cost upfront.

I think the problem is that to transition to a public transit model would require the transportation to be built first. It would also require the public transit to operate at a loss for a decade or two while buildings and people transition to this new mode of transportation. Many people are against this in the US because it's expensive and nobody likes tax hikes. Also people love their cars.

I and many other people would rather be dead than tortured. Torturing doesn't actually accomplish anything either. Anyone will say what you want to hear to get the pain to stop. Torture is more about some sick revenge.
