Absolutely agree on this. Furthermore, there's zero interactivity with the map other than zoom and pan. Maybe it's just me, but I can't click any labeled point of interest for more information. Nor can I click on a spot to set start or end locations for directions! It's surprising how non-user friendly it is at this stage.

I designed and built a burning man shade structure for out camp with one of Christo's Running Fence panels that we found in an old barn in Northern California. I was so glad about how many of my 'neighbors' knew about Christo. I got a little street cred from that :)

Healthy skepticism is great! But every post of yours is perfectly fitting the troll recipe. But just in case you're being genuine, here's my take.

The software is already nice and very usable, even at this early beta stage. There's going to be a million users within a couple years. One thing I've noticed about the PKM community, is that there are a lot of really smart and ambitious people here. You know what that means? Community capital. Guarantee or not, if Obsidian ceases to exist, you possess your data in an open format structure in an open standard, and the latest software you had downloaded will work until a handful of those million users create an open source equivalent.

There's nothing proprietary about backlinking. It's not rocket science. Obsidian is just leading the way with a very enjoyable UX for it.

And I hope they succeed. It seems like they are genuinely seeking a nice balance between creating value for themselves and the community.

It's interesting to observe the length of time it has taken for a power utility to crumble. I believe the disintegration we're seeing now began with the governmental deregulation of utilities during the Regan administration. The current state was predicted by losers in that round of voting. We are now seeing the tipping point of those regulatory changes.

I think in other industries we might have seen these problems arise much sooner. But the utilities are slow, colossal beasts that take decades for changes to really take affect.
