This is how the criminal courts operate (juries).

Written communication serves separable purposes:

* Replicating speech, Archiving speech, and separating the acts of speaking and listening from each other. There are alternatives to written format.

* Speech that can be edited easily, until it is perfected.

* Speech that be sped up, slowed down, and jumped around with random access and search.

* Silent speech.

These features can be achieved with alternative technologies.

Written communication also has drawbacks. It is a lossy compression of spoken speech.

The train paths are drawn on a 2D layer above the buildings, not at z-index that matches the proper 3-D position. So the paths appear to weave around and over the tops of buildings.

A PhD is a doctor of philosophy. Science is a natural philosophy.

Philosophy is a broad, vague category.

> Search all government auctions in one place, *know what they're worth before you bid*

So the blog post contradicts the entire premise of the site.

This is just an ad for their valuation service.

An option to disable animation and show the paper links in a simple list would be helpful.

It's amazing that business would tolerate paying staff to build products on one person's prototype hobby language.

"wrong" or "random" is not the same as "fiction"

"non-fiction" doesn't mean "correct".

arXiv enables peer review!

arXiv users are the peers doing the review.

"Peer review" has existed for centuries before journals created their own bad for-profit version.

Your comment is not responsive to the comment you replied to, which was a critique of point 19.

Have you tried reading the news?

Perhaps the shoplifters are less iportant to the surveillance state than the people protesting government abuse and getting chased around the country to their workplaces and vacation hotels?

The ads are getting shoved regardless. The content of the ads are based on personalization data.

Google doesn't make money from you "paying a cent". They make money from you paying advertisers who pay Google. So the relevant metric is how much you spent on Google advertisers.

Geometry pictures are absolutely not "rigorous definitions". For 1 thing, pictures of lines aren't finite in extent, and pictures of points are finite in extent.

Some of Euclid's proofs are wrong, because they relied on those non-rigorous picture definitions.

* Book I, Proposition 1 (constructing an equilateral triangle)

* Book I, Proposition 4 (Side-Angle-Side triangle congruence).

* Multiple theorems throughout the Elements rely on the visual "betweenness" of points.

Words are like atoms. We also have sentences (molecules) and paragraphs (structures) and more. Complexity matters.

Please define "conscious".

Please give an example of an interaction with an animal that suggests that the animal is conscious, but not using language.

Challenge round: Please demonstrate that conscious animals are not using internal idiolect (language with 1 user) and lack the physical ability to develop a form of shared communication for that language.

Congress should end the AMA guild's chokehold on linking "Medicare" to medical training at all. It's a complete grift.
