Because we focus on abstract problem statements, coded appeals to authority (as if ex-Reddit CEO is that special; there are a few), rather than concrete engineering?

User demand to control what they see is there. It’s why TV was successful; don’t like what’s on History? Check out Animal Planet.

Tech CEOs need their genius validated and refuse to concede anyone else knows what’s best for themselves. What everyone else sees is a problem for a smurt CEO to micromanage to death, of course.

So all these US businesses do zero planning? The Fed is raising rates for lulz? We’ve unintentionally allowed consolidation of ownership? No one has any clue? You’re nitpicking semantics.

Twitter is text based. Video games have had text based profanity filters for online games for years.

Make it easy for users to define a regex list saved locally. On the backend train a model that filters images of gore and genitals. Aim users who opt in to that experience at that filtered stream.

This problem does not require a long winded thesis.

The brain is not involved in a whole lot of behaviors though. Cells organize themselves to an extent. Cuts heal without us focusing conscious thought on them.

The brain is a hard drive but the body is the whole computer.

Science is proving physical causation. Not just writing down what we want to be true.

There’s no way these people chat in a Signal chat group?

It’s funny how people on a technology forum discount other normal humans also using technology

I mean Musk’s Twitter texts just revealed they do exactly that.

Technically the US has more people in prison than China, and QOL metrics have all been dropping for decades.

Crack epidemic. Prescription drug epidemic. RvW being gutted.

Let’s sit and fear becoming a nation state that collapsed 30 years ago while ignoring we’re already on the path.

Ah the exceptional minds of the US. “If it smells like a violation of politically correct tradition as I know it, it’s communism!”

I sometimes wonder how much further along these initiatives might be if the economy was focused on them instead of My Pillow sales, cheap crap from Walmart, and simply handing personally wealthy elites stacks of cash to create pointless jobs and the money was put into net new technology, not Twitter 2.0 and VR 4.0

Mostly I was agreeing with the analogy of a run on a bank. Fed pulled out of funding the economy as it was. Less money for them to spend on coffees, Ubers, etc.; less to “trickle down” given the uncertainty of grandpa Powell’s intention to bring pain to households (except his own of course; he’s got enough to be insulated from his actions).

If you want to go on a specific tangent involving dead men’s philosophy, be my guest. I was merely attempting to illustrate how apt the bank run analogy is.

Yup.

Powell has been saying for months he wants people to save and pull cash out of the economy.

This is intentional because DC decided tech workers were undermining Washingtons of course most correct and immutable control over agency.

Why if all these people kept earning and could acquire more assets and live comfortable, politicians and uber rich would have no place in our society.

The fundamentals must be maintained. Fundamentals being we serve their goals, not the other way around.

Capital is used here as a euphemism for land ownership. Net worth being mathematical inference of how well land owner “capitalizes” on the possession of land.

Other asset classes came along because, well, useful land is finite, and to create new wealth holders to act as missionaries for the US dollar. “Yeah even this trash is worth money in the US!”

Valuations are arbitrary numerical assessments based upon the whims of the assessors (assignment of currency value to stuff is a social tradition; there is no science that suggests the universe values any bit of itself what with entropy ripping the universes stuff apart), and routinely inflated to validate investors past decision to “buy into” Murica.

Biology being largely unchanged in centuries (in a meaningful way given the context here), the issues in our culture can easily be assigned to political corruption as usual. All the high talk about separation of powers is laughable as DC pols rub elbows at private social events, discussing not systemic change for the public benefit but how to veil graft as justifiable given their intimate connection to our political norms.

Simple really. Most white collar crime is still the same old “deflect, project, until we can change the rules” as policing is conveniently unfunded.

The mathematical gap between classes must be maintained! Or Sauron himself will emerge from the lava of Mt Doom or some shit.

I say we post up at home, stop going to work except to maintain our communities locally, make Jamie Dimon and co knock on every door in the US looking for rent. But I’m weird that way. Except for 2A, I really lean into progressive doctrine, which often aligns with conservative doctrine but media intentionally stokes this stupid culture war to obfuscate it.

Nah the final version is chips with a massive data model and algorithmic magic embedded in silicon magic to bootstrap an environment that samples the data model to answer user questions.

A ways off, but some colleagues in the hardware world are working out the requirements on paper. Maybe right as I type this, not really tracking their calendar.

There will be some wiggle room for general programming, patches, hands on customization by the user.

Software is a decades long bubble to help us discover optimal machine state models we can etch into chips.

So long as we can avoid social collapse or species extinction between now than then anyway :)

Eh more like they shift managing the state to cloud providers.

Someone has to bootstrap a DC of machines before you can run that containerized business logic.

All the old barnacles are there it’s just hidden behind the wizards curtain.

Race wars have been used to obfuscate a class war.

Historically minorities were prevented from being capital owners and as that changed aristocrats appealed to skin color while also routinely sweeping the legs out from under poor whites as they still do today, after enraging them stupid shit like tan suits and public protests.

Thanks to inflation, moving one or two income brackets is closer to staying in the same place. $100-200k year in the 80s is equivalent to $600-700k now. If parents made $50-60k then and junior makes $150k, the number tripled but the buying power is worse.

I don’t really understand why we cling to the hallucinations of elders who, given their ages, when they were educated, are “behind us” when it comes to scientific knowledge and intuition, and are gripped by paranoia and anxieties from Cold War and the world at war in their prime years.

They operate on economic models from a period of heavy demand due to war. Afflicted by sunk cost fallacy, evolved the behavior to disposable consumerism.

The last 80 years of economic growth are entirely due to the rest of the world needing to rebuild and the US having functional infra. There’s no way it was sustainable, as the correctness of such activity is merely one generations memory, not some immutable law of reality.

Any sufficiently numerate person can intuit the game being played. Bigger number! Oo! But prices on the market have gradually been inflated to prevent new workers being able to afford real assets, and as a result of other nations catching up and making the same demands.

The context OP setup was “when grey beards retire.”

The ideas being demand is low as the senior EEs stay put.

Mom and pop shops could use Excel and did successfully for years. Big banks even ran on gigabyte sized Excel sheets before the 2010s hype bubble (Source: direct experience working in fintech 2010-2015)

Anyone in tech believing the last 10-15 years was about anything but the US government juicing its economy to stay relevant, titillate, and ingratiate itself on now 30-40 something college grads is fooling themselves. All those students are now bought in to keeping the dollar alive.

Software has gotten so over thought and bloated given a “too many cooks in the kitchen.” situation. Templating a git repo with appropriate dep files given mathematical constraints is not rocket science. The past needed to imagine software as out of this world to gain mindshare. Correct and stable electrical state is what really matters.

We are entering a new era of tearing down the cloud monolith for open ML libs that put machines to work, not people.

Behavioral economics has been running the US since before Reagan.
