They weren't pirates. The Barbary traders were responding to the European inquisition that saw pogroms all over Europe that slaughtered and tortured Muslims and Jews alike. And the attacks and conquest by Christians against Andalusia. There was also a sense of containing European expansion after the crusades. For instance, many of the Jews that settled in North Africa were Iberian refugees rescued by those "pirates".
Funny. When I get concerned about Western soft power that is currently very real, not just plausible, westerners are incredulous. Especially when it comes to space exploration you always hear the narrative as "humanity colonizing mars" when that's utterly not true. The west is colonizing Mars and if it goes well for them then that's another planet to add to their civilization. Have fun dealing with that.
You're going to get down voted by the hindu nationalist horde. As India steps up it's internet access, the world is going to see more and more Indian trolls and it will become a serious problem.
Nuclear power is a meme. To replace our current energy expenditure we would need 15,000 fission plants. Not only is that not possible, but unsustainable. Neutron embrittlelmen and a ton of other problems means thousands of plants would need to be constantly torn down and replaced every few years. Or one somewhere in the world every single day. Currently, it takes 6-12 years to build a nuclear station, and up to 20 years to decommission one, making this rate of replacement unrealistic. We only have about 80 years left of viable uranium. With 15000 new plants, do the math. We definitely do not have enough exotic metals for even building that many plants. We need a lot of stuff to protect the plant from radiation. The efficiency of nuclear power, fission and fusion isn't that great. After all, it's just heat energy transferred to mechanical to electric energy. Which means, it would take a tremendous amount of oil (yup fossil fuels are still needed) to lubricate the mechanical parts. No oil, no power regardless of what's doing the pushing. The trade off in power generated isn't that great for nuclear compared to traditional plants. There are a number of other issues.
Nuclear Utopia was never tried for a reason. The current model of civilization is just simply unsustainable. Billions of people and everyone needs a car and a plane and a drone and a hundred appliances and gadgets and exorbitant food waste is just NOT SUSTAINABLE.
That's all you do though is focus on flaws and obnoxiously repeat a meaningless mantra of democracy and human rights and freedom. You haven't defined them nor proven you are the sole proprietor. You just want to spread your monoculture through war and sanctions and soft power and constant bitching.
Harassing people on the street and being a total scum is awful. But I would rather be exposed to this reality of human nature rather than having laws that just simply hide it.
As much as I hate China for what it did to Tibet and what's doing now to Turkic Muslims, there is an important point being made here. The way you feel about the future; the idea that you'll be under the power of people that are an anathema to your way of life, is how most people have felt about the west for the worst part of a bitter century.
