Yes, as an example of excessive advertising, the biggest concert hall in Paris, which people just call Bercy because it's the landmark building of this neighbourhood, has been renovated and is now named Accorhotel Arena. Stupid marketing people believe they can be perceived as the benevolent pygmalions of arts and sports but they so obiously want free advertising whenever journalists will refer to this place. It only makes me want to boycott their hotels.
Too late, I've just unsubscribed. This issue was a last-drop motivator, the primary reason being that I don't like paying artists I don't listen while the lesser known artists I do listen only get a few cents if anything of my monthly fee.
Twitter's website has so many annoyances it is no more a pleasure for me to check it. For example:
- Photos are very badly cropped and clicking on the tweet does not diplay them full size anymore. We have to click a second time on the photo.
- Photos are now displayed above the text which somehow makes the bad cropping even worse.
- People who want to post photos have all moved to Instagram anyway. Twitter is an actor, not a victim, of this move. They seem to consider photos as a feature for advertisers, not for users.
- Embedded tweets (retweets with a comment) don't have functionnal links. Clicking them opens the tweet's page in a way that ruins the auto-scrolling of the main stream. The trick against that is to right-click on the embedding tweet's time and open the link in a new tab. WTF, designers?
- If one wants to post a longer text, Twitter leads them to create an account elsewhere. Twitter could easily just display the title and hide the longer text behind a click. WTF, strategists?
I think it's no one and for no reason. We're living in a hierarchist society (as opposed to an anarchist one). This hierarchy is naturally establishing itself in the greatest invention of our time: the internet and our computers.
I don't like the French version of Bing. One of the reasons is that it assumes I'm monolingual. Like, if I search for a film, I'll get the result for Allociné instead of IMDb. I much prefer IMDb.
It depends on the quality of your screen. On my previous laptop I had a high-quality WLED screen and ST3 looked clearly better than everything else on Windows. On my current cheap laptop however, everything looks quite pixelated anyways and I actually prefer the rendering of gVim or Notepad++.
