This is one of those perennial aviation legends[0] that are still alive, like Amelia Earhart's wreck. Always another rich guy funding a search with promising results.
I use Feeder, but still end up doom scrolling reddit way too to often. Discovery is the hard part for me, and I don't spend much time trying to find good content. For me, this is the "personal responsibility" side of the coin and requires effort. I suspect this is common, and it's what algorithmic social media exploits.
I can't find it so it's probably just a myth, but I recall hearing about "free beer with purchase of food" at bars during prohibition. However, I think it was more than just the sale that was prohibited.
Man, I spent a lot of time looking for something like this when i bought my NAS and got annoyed with all the power bricks. Guitar players use them[0] to power their several guitar pedals, but the polarity, voltage and plug form factors are all the same, as far as I know. The various devices i have use slightly different plugs, polarities and i think not all are 12VDC.
I'm very surprised that nothing like this exists in the tech/IT space. There can't be that many form factors, voltages, etc. to deal with.
One thing I remember from his book is that the 747 was initially of secondary importance within Boeing, behind the SST. This wasn't Boeing's flagship, so to speak, until SST was canceled.
I've never been able to access my old LastPass vault to delete its contents since its first breach when I switched to bitwarden. I recall contacting them to make sure my data was erased, but I never got a good confirmation of that.
Yeah, and he is such an intellectual child, that he can very easily be manipulated by those minions. They let him think he's the brains of the operation, and they get their policies enacted.
I don't think it's allegiance so much as the metaphorical opposite of a fig leaf. He allows and provides cover fire for the worst intentions of his deputized minions.
After my first visit to Switzerland, I knew I needed one of those clocks for my home. Unfortunately the ones available are cheap (though expensive) and don't have the second hand dwell at the top of each minute.
Why isn't there a simple solution in the software world that's functionally equivalent to flashing your ID at the liquor store? They get the verification they need with no permanent record of your PII.
This can't be that hard. Can't I get an electronic certificate/flag verified by a trusted third party using my ID, where this cert retains no PII? This is what I come up with after not thinking very hard about the problem, and I can't be alone.
Maybe its naive to think that harvesting PII isn't the point.
I don't mind the old walls in my house with their lumps and bumps, but I do mind the half assed drywall job I hired out with poorly sanded joints, oversized electrical cutouts and other flaws.
I had a similar memory of hearing this scheme in the context of a Latin American country. Industries were nationalized, and foreign corporate owners were compensated based on the tax assessed value of their businesses.
