He was smart, but not street smart.

Also, I do belive the story was that he had the appearance of a homeless man and thus received sub-standard care. When someone finally recognized him, it was already too late.

> A 2019 study published in Ophthalmology—the journal of the American Academy of Ophthalmology—offers more evidence that at least part of the worldwide increase in nearsightedness has to do with near work activities. It’s not just screens affecting eye development, it’s also traditional books and the amount of time spent indoors overall. The study also found that spending time outdoors—especially in early childhood—can slow the progression of nearsightedness.

And by "false" you mean "true"? Because that's exactly what the study says. Their recommendation is that kids should spend more time outside, not stare at screens or books.

Yeah, it's like Diamond age, except it also destroys your kid's vision.

But then again, that's a potential upsell just waiting to happen - do you want eyeglasses with that? Your kid is gonna need them.

That's a good question. Poorly phrased though. ;)

Yes, and a lot of others.

A bit too expensive for a home appliance though, isn't it?

There is an entire ecosystem of kid's watches which do exactly that. Pretty much just a miniature cellphone with restricted functions that goes on the wrist like some sort of a tracking collar.

Nope, just fat. ;)

I am aware of a recent youtube video where some guy measured the CO2 ppm scores with recirculation on. The results are (obviously) quite terrible after a while.

But I don't think car manufacturers care about that. I think the switch to fresh air after a while is mainly to prevent the windshield from fogging up.

I just tried, using https://tris.sherliker.net/assets/2026-07-04-cropped-script.... as a source and the answer is a resounding no.

TCP vs UDP. ;) Both have their uses.

> You put the re-circulation fan on, perhaps because you don't like smelling exhaust fumes? Car quietly turns it off again in the not to distant future.

I believe most newer cars do this and there are good reasons for it.

It's one of the travel assist features where the cars try to stick to the changing speed limits, slow down for corners etc... .

That's what so great about it, isn't it?

There was a post here on hn that showcased EU tech map which you can use to check for alternatives, ie for Gmail https://europeantechmap.eu/alternative-to/gmail?pricing=free...

There aren't many completely european solutions, but there are more than zero.

Is that really a concern? Pretty much any robovac nowadays has a camera and a wireless connection to the cloud and nobody seems to care.

The single hose units work. They have a lot of downsides though. They are heavy, loud and require a supply of fresh air. That means that your either do not block the window completely and draw hot air in, thus reducing the available cooling capacity of the unit, or seal the window and the unit will create low pressure area in your home and draw the air from elsehwere (via other leaking doors, windows or even bathroom fans - which can be a bit smelly).

tl;dr If you are considering a portable AC unit, try to get a dual hose one, or save for a mini/multi split.

Security. More precisely, the ability to secure access to redis with a password.

Thanks, appreciate the response.

Sounds like the HA Green should be more than enough for my needs - that is testing if the grass is really greener on the other side of the fence of my Amazon-walled garden.
