I've been harbouring similar thoughts to you for quite some time. I live in Canada, where healthcare is supposedly "free" (it's not, you get taxed like crazy here!). The treatment you receive here is subpar in my opinion. The declining quality of treatment, I'm guessing is most likely attributed to an increasing population and the limited number of quality doctors available to treat these people.
I would assume these challenges aren't unique to Canada and from an outsider's perspective the medical system in the US seems worse (maybe not if you're rich)
This post pretty much makes the statement a lot of scientific research has already proven. Your brain needs rest in order to form new neural connections (especially when you're learning). Working long hours to the point where you are experiencing mental fatigue is counterproductive to one's efficiency and overall output. Even for those people who are capable of pulling 12 - 16 hour days their productivity wanes after a certain point and are more prone to producing lower quality work and making errors. https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/mental-downtime/
It's easy for a portion of people on HN to minimize their use of Facebook because most visitors to this site hate ads and have a general dislike and distrust towards the service Facebook offers. On the contrary, the general population doesn't have the same perspective on things since they aren't as technical and probably less educated as many HN visitors so they'll continue to use Facebook disregarding the potential consequences that may arise. Also it doesn't help a lot of people are still using Facebook and still remains a great way to keep up with people.
You've got a good point here. Before actually using the product I thought the name was really gimmicky. Despite that, I had a fairly positive experience with RethinkDB. Their documentation was great and changefeeds were a great feature for what I was doing at the time.
