What happens if you declare an external function of type 'a -> 'b? Obj.magic is trivial to implement, it's just the typing that is wonky. (Disclaimer: I have never looked at BuckleScript or js_of_ocaml.)

Repute is what people think of you in the aggregate. It doesn't make sense (at least to me) to say "beyond repute." On the other hand to say that something is "beyond reproach" is a standard phrase indicating that no reasonable person can find anything to disapprove about the thing. Perhaps you're thinking of "beyond dispute."

What Apple calls "automatic reference counting" is what is usually known as just "reference counting." They call it "automatic" to distinguish it from the previous, even cruder, system where counts were manipulated directly by the programmer. I find Rivka Galchen's essays enthralling. One intriguing thing she wrote a while back is that the game Minecraft has a Joycean quality. I don't know what she means by this, but I'm pretty sure she's correct.
