Aw, blushing over here :) Thanks for the mention Calvin! We (Vitally) are thrilled to be one of the first custom-built Segment integrations and look forward to continuing to work with you all!
Pretty much every SaaS company tracks KPIs like MRR, churn, etc. And pretty much every SaaS company tracks the ways their customers use their product. But those two datasets rarely, if ever, overlap. However, the intersection of that data contains some critical insights, like understanding which features (when used) increase the customer's willingness to pay, which features do churned customers most often fail to use, etc. To truly impact your SaaS KPIs, you need answers to those questions, so this is our stab at providing that insight!
Vitally (vitally.io) | Growth Marketer/Generalist (first hire) | ONSITE: New York, NY | Full Time
Vitally is an analytics platform that provides B2B startups with metrics and insights to drive their success. We are looking for our first non-technical, growth-focused hire. The goal with this position is to help generate early traction as we go to market next month, which means it will start with a bit of creative marketing efforts and continue through with some Customer Success. We are looking for someone to help out across the board, so you should be a generalist and a bit of a hustler.
We are based in NYC and work out of the Techstars office there (we did Techstars NYC last year). If interested, please reach out to [email protected]. Thanks!
Vitally (https://vitally.io) | Growth-focused generalist | New York, NY | ONSITE | Full-time
Vitally is looking for its first non-technical + growth-focused hire. The goal with this position is to help generate early traction, which means it will start with a bit of creative marketing efforts, likely continue with some sales, and end with some Customer Success (contingent upon success of the first two areas, of course). We are looking for someone to help out across the board, so you should be a generalist and a bit of a hustler.
Vitally is a product analytics platform (with revenue analytics coming soon) to drive success for B2B startups - think Mixpanel meets Baremetrics with a focus exclusively on B2B needs/pains. We did the Techstars NYC accelerator last fall and will launch our first official offering in April.
If you want to join a promising startup in its (very) early stages, please reach out to [email protected]. Thanks!
Hi all! We're a new analytics platform built with Customer Success teams in mind. We help B2B SaaS companies track 1) the product metrics critical to customer retention and 2) the impact their post-sales efforts have on those metrics.
We're currently part of the Techstars NYC batch and just launched a private beta this week. Happy to field any questions or hear any feedback! We're targeting fast-growing B2B SaaS startups, so we thought HN might be a good launch platform :)
Pathgather - http://pathgather.com - ONSITE preferred, REMOTE a possibility - New York, NY
Pathgather is an enterprise learning platform that - unlike traditional learning systems forced on employees - is one you'll actually enjoy using, time and time again. We’re solving a big problem felt by almost all large companies: how to continuously train & educate your workforce with modern/relevant content.
One way we're doing that is through one of the more engaging & attractive interfaces in the enterprise market today. Historically, it seems that enterprise products can "get away" with compromising on UI/UX, especially compared to consumer products. We don't believe that should be the case. We strive to be a product you use daily, but in order for us to achieve that, our interface needs to meet (and exceed) the standards you experience on a daily basis.
We're looking for an engineer who can focus & make strides on this goal. You'll do everything from helping define the UI/UX for new feature releases to actual feature implementation.
About You
- You don't test a feature in the browser without dev tools open
- You're well versed in Javascript (we use Coffeescript), sans frameworks like jQuery
- You have experience building front-end features from conception to launch. This means extensive knowledge with CSS (we use Sass) and HTML (Haml)
- Perhaps you have experience in AngularJS. If not, you can learn here though
- Ideally, you have experience with front-end dev tools like Bower, Browsersify, Grunt, Jasmine, etc
- You're used to writing unit & E2E tests for your code
About Us
- We're a Techstars NYC 2014 graduate
- We've got customers the likes of Qualcomm & Twitter backing us
- We're making a splash in a very antiquated industry, which means you'd be given the opportunity to design unprecedented solutions to problems that have plagued companies for quite some time
- On Fridays, you have the opportunity to work on or learn whatever you like. We often work on open source software (https://github.com/Pathgather) or dig into new technologies
Pathgather | Front-End Engineer & Back-End/API Engineer | New York, NY | ONSITE preferred, REMOTE maybe | pathgather.com
Pathgather is a Techstars NYC startup building an enterprise learning platform that - unlike traditional learning systems forced on employees - is one you'll actually enjoy using. We’re solving a big problem felt by almost all large companies: how to continuously train and educate your workforce with modern/relevant content.
One way we're doing that is through one of the more engaging and attractive interfaces in the enterprise market today, paired with an extreme focus on the end user (the employee). Past learning systems have focused heavily on compliance, providing tools to administrators to force and require learning. We want to inspire learning, not require it.
And even though we’re still pretty small (8 full-time members) and young (just been launched for a bit over a year), companies are starting to take notice. We’re working with some pretty notable customers, including Walmart, Qualcomm, and Twitter.
We’re looking to add a member on both the front-end team (Javascript/Coffeescript, Angular, Sass, Haml, Browserify, Grunt) and back-end (Ruby/Rails, Postgres, Redis, Elasticsearch). For the front-end, you'd do everything from helping define the UI/UX for new feature releases to actual feature implementation in the usual front-end technologies (Javascript, CSS, HTML, etc). For the back-end, we’re looking for an API expert, someone who can come in and our own suite of APIs (both internal and external).
Pathgather | New York, NY | onsite preferred, will consider remote
Pathgather is Techstars NYC company building an enterprise learning platform that - unlike traditional learning systems forced on employees - is one you'll actually enjoy using. We’re solving a big problem felt by almost all growing companies: how to continuously train and educate your workforce with modern/relevant content.
One way we're doing that is through the flexibility in our platform, which supports a variety of integrations. Because of that, we deal with lots of APIs.
We're looking for an API expert to join our small but growing team. You'll own the API we provide to companies like Qualcomm, Walmart, and Twitter, and you'll help expand our suite of 3rd party integrations. You'll have significant impact on every customer deployment and the opportunity to interface with the talented engineers consuming our APIs.
About You
- You're an API expert. You of course prefer JSON REST APIs but can deal with an XML SOAP API if need be.
- You understand and have opinions on common API authentication methods like OAuth, JWT, etc
- You understand SQL (ideally Postgres). Maybe you've worked with ORMs like ActiveRecord and/or Sequel.
- You have experience with Ruby/Rails (or a similar language)
- Perhaps you've dealt with Redis and Elasticsearch too, but if you haven't, no worries. We'll give you the chance to in any case.
Responsibilites
- Lead and develop integrations that enhance our learning content offerings to our customers
- Enhance the API we provide to our customers (docs.pathgather.com). Some of the functionality you might add include analytics reporting and bulk creates/updates.
- Help define the strategy for the launch of a Pathgather partner program/platform. This project would allow partnered content vendors to integrate with Pathgather in a variety of ways via defined standards and API communications.
If you're interested, please contact me at [email protected]. We have a great work environment in our Union Square office and would love for you to be a part! You can also see more about us and what we offer at https://angel.co/pathgather/jobs
We’re a Techstars NYC 2014 startup looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer, a Javascript expert that can come in and own one of the most engaging interfaces in the enterprise market today.
Our product is an enterprise learning platform that - unlike traditional systems - is one employees actually want to use. We’re solving a big problem felt by almost all large companies: how to continuously train and educate your workforce with modern/relevant content. More than 75% of all companies use a Learning Management System (LMS) for this, but their > 60% dissatisfaction rate shows these systems simply don’t work. We’re changing that.
What we're looking for:
* Javascript/Coffeescript expertise
* Strong experience with AngularJS
* UX focus
* Design skills a huge bonus
* Ruby/Rails knowledge another bonus, but certainly supplemental
What we can offer:
* A (more than) competitive salary & equity
* Opportunities to contribute to the open source community. Every Friday, you have the opportunity to work on anything open source: you can contribute to existing projects, work on your own, or open source a part of our codebase.
* An awesome team to work with, in an awesome location (Union Square in NYC)
* A chance to have a truly influential role at a fast-growing, ambitious startup!
If any of this sounds interesting or if you have some questions, please reach out to me at [email protected]. Thanks!
Maybe you're right, but I certainly think there are some valid cases where this could be useful. I'm not saying use it in every project, or use it as a workaround to a larger architectural issue, but if you have a single page app that does not render templates on the server, showing something like this while you make a few AJAX calls and compile the data returned into your client-side templates isn't the worse thing in the world. Slack and Asana do similar things, and I would hardly say that their engineering teams did a ton wrong. We actually built this because we're customers of both and enjoyed the screens they showed, so we wanted to see if we could make a generic library that others could use to do the same.
I certainly agree. There are almost always ways to avoid "loading a good bit of data on the user's first use". But for your traditional SPA, it's quite common that you need to make a few AJAX calls to your backend API in order to fetch some data to show to the user. This was built for mostly that case, not for the "let's block the user's screen for 5+ seconds while we do unnecessary data fetches" case.
Edit: I misspoke when I said "a good bit of data" in my original response. I simply meant any API calls to your backend.
Using PleaseWait to actually show progress can be achieved by simply updating the loading HTML to show a number percentage, but we may update the API to make this easier in the future.
And I agree that a skeleton project to show proper modularization of different components would be great! Our blog just started an Angular series, so we'll try to write one on how we split up our large Angular enterprise app in this regard :)
For SPAs, something like this can be quite useful for a few reasons: branding (see Slack's and Asana's cool examples), having in-app authentication on any page (see the login form example on the demo page), and yes, showing some sort of notification while a good bit of data loads in the background.
For the majority of sites, I agree this may be overkill, but if you have a SPA that needs to load a good bit of data on the user's first use of your app (and verify authentication), this can (hopefully) be useful.

We launched earlier this year and are already in use by tens of thousands of employees at some of the world’s most recognizable brands. We’re a small team, but we’ve got investment capital in the bank, real revenue coming in the door, and are now looking for the right person who is ready to take ownership of our frontend.
