If immunity is what people cared about, shouldn't we just do antibodies test instead of a blanket vaccine on all? Some people double vaxxed still present low antibodies. Everyone's biology is going to react differently.
when I hear "it will take a while" type of comment, I take it with a grain of salt. In BC Canada, our health or public health officer said in May of 2021 "..and there is no way that we will recommend inequities be increased our use of things like vaccine passports for services, for public access here in British Columbia" within 4 months she's implemented it.
I do not support mandating vaccines. However I recognize the argument "all kids have to have x numbers of vaccine to attend school already, what is the difference?". Of course not all vaccines are made the same and because of this more and more people will be against the other childhood vaccines that are already here. This is like mandating the flu shots on everyone when really the people being affected by any viruses are going to be the old and those with underlying conditions (those with obesity and diabetes especially)
I feel like the efficacy is debatable. It reduces severe symptoms but more and more vaccinated are contracting it daily even in places of 95+% vaccinated so there's a good dialogue to be had here
Even for racism and homophobia has now merged through grey areas. Someone who disagrees with mass immigration is a racist and someone who is pro the sanctity of marriage between man and woman (not that you can't get legal rights as a same sex couple) is now homophobia. There's so much nuance in under these big umbrellas that no one care to have a dialogue about, they just want clear cut right or wrong with the world is filled in fuzzy lines.
"We discussed our concerns with the specialist doctor who has treated her for years. The doctor researched the topic and reached the opinion that she is at increased risk of severe adverse effects due to her condition. We presented to the authorities a note written by the doctor detailing my wife's situation and the conclusion that vaccination is therefore not worth the risk for her.
Our request was rejected. My wife will not receive an exemption from the Opportunity Pass restrictions. We received no explanation. As far as we know, there is no appeal.
We don't know what happened in her case. But in general, our government is opposed to medical exemptions. The authorities have announced that they only allow medical exemptions in cases where a certified allergist doctor finds, through extensive documented testing, that a person is severely allergic to the substance within the vaccine (anaphylactic reactions). In an interview, an official of the Ministry of Health stated that such an allergy is the only allowable exemption and the Ministry dislikes "the tendency to use medical excuses as a justification to not vaccinate"."
Or you can continue to fight the policies. You don't just bend "a little" for the betterment of the society when the policies aren't actually "for the betterment" of the society. Literate and otherwise-intelligent people will question whether a policy makes sense rather than just blindly follow it. I am more surprised that literate and otherwise-intelligent people who don't even try questioning policies and take whatever the government feeds them.
"The judgment of therapeutic proportionality must be made by the person who is the potential
recipient of the intervention in the concrete circumstances,6 not by public health authorities or by other
individuals who might judge differently in their own situations."
A family member in BC has been trying to get an exemption from 3 doctors already. 2/3 said they are incredibly shocked that they're not allowed to give them due to threats of having their license taken away. They said they really want to and that if my family member finds a way around it, they will write it.
but also why haven't we empowered physicians to recommend other ways or reducing severity that requires hospitalization? Exercise, vitD, C, Zinc, etc? that hasn't been said anywhere and even if they don't "prevent" covid, they are definitely going to reduce the need to go to the hospitals from other things (incl if you catch covid)
"But Varaka said he was told by his employer that immediate revaccination was his only option, and he won't be able to get an extension."
This is scary, we don't know what mixing shots and so soon will do to a person. At this point this is hardly about public health anymore, to not even be able to grant exemptions like this.
asides from obese people / poor lifestyle choice people taking up health care resources, not only from Covid but they're also taking up resources from all other ailments that comes up BECAUSE they're obese. As well the culture today encourages plus size, like it's asking to overwhelm the healthcare system
The lifestyle change is a choice that we make. For those people that HAVE made these choices, should also have a choice into taking a vaccine when they don't need it, just to satisfy those that have not taken the choice to do the same. Those who are obese, alcoholics or whatever can then take the choice to get vaccinated to better protect themselves
Not yet (Canada, large private company) - they are working super hard to incentivize us to report our statuses (proof of vaccination or exemption from a bona fide human rights grounds) to be entered into cash prizes. I think they are waiting to see what's happening with the federal election and who has been sued to make their decision.
except a lot of doctors will be unwilling to give out medical exemptions because they are afraid to lose their license (even though they agree with the patient). It's happening here in Canada.
