Maybe it is being investigated and you don't know. For both drivers, your responsibility begins and ends with getting a police report done and informing the insurance companies, then they'll fight it out. If they think they can go after Tesla, instead of one of them paying, they will. You aren't going to hear about it regardless.

Are you sure you aren't living in a techie bubble? Oculus consistently tops the best selling headsets list at amazon cnet, PCMag, etc.. The only non-developers I know with headsets all have Oculus or more rarely PSVR. Maybe they aren't cutting edge, but everyday people can't afford cutting edge anyway.

They burned a lot of developer cred. by going back on the promise not to require Facebook login with Oculus, but the public at large has no knowledge of that. All the public knows is that it's decent hardware for a super low price compared to the competitors, it doesn't require a PC, and it's what most of their friends with a headset are using.

Can't really call having the most popular headset not succeeding, even if it is probably subsidized with their massive ads money making machine.

I'm too young to have played his games, but looking at the wiki page for Balance of Power, it looks very similar to Plague Inc.. You have a world map and you react to events. Plague Inc. is so super popular even my kid nephew plays it on his iPad and can talk at length on it for hours.

Personally, I played a lot of XCOM which is a similar world map UI with random alien invading events you react to.

So anyway, writing the books might have been a waste, but people seem to copy the game format quite a bit. Very influential. Probably should have written more games instead of the two books.

At least here a drive to McDonalds results in a 15 minute wait in the drive through, so there's more charging going on than just the trip. In n Out is even worse, their line fills up the Costco parking lot...

> The platform should be aware of how long it takes to deliver (taking traffic into account, especially for Uber which has access to that data already) and shouldn't risk offering deliveries if they can't reasonably guarantee the food won't be cold

In my experience, the platforms are doing the exact opposite. A lot of times the driver is there, the food is there, and the driver is being told to wait for more orders. I've called and asked before on some of the platforms where you have the phone number.

That said, I've never seen someone bothered by having to put some delivery food in the microwave, though. It's sort of expected. About the only case where I've seen that is for pizza, and pizza places have their own drivers anyway.

So it's probably a good bet for the platform doing what they do. If you can serve twice as many customers this way, and have to ban 1/5 customers who have no microwave, you'd still come out ahead as a business.

What makes you think it is non-local? Two of the options are RAM only (32GB and 512GB). That's like memory chips plugged into the motherboard (what modern normal user computers often only have 2 to 4GB of). You would run a RAM disk if your software needed something more than the boot drive to run using that. That's why the numbers are so large.

The other option is PCIe Flash, that's a solid state "disk" plugged into the motherboard expansion slot, basically. Again since that flat out state PCIe, they are saying it is local.

I use Simple REST Client for Chrome. This might have a few extra features, though, so guess I'll try it out. Seems like a common, over served extension idea, though.

But if the project stops keeping obsolete build machines around, they would save on electricity bills. Hackers could still hack, they just wouldn't be killing the project with legacy support costs.

And now, amusingly, they are on the front page with a post about the post. That's around 10k views, although the conversion rate to the namecast link at the start might be low it will still be lot more traffic than the original show HN post.
