I had been using Ubuntu for the last few years before I switched back to Windows as now I don't program much. I was amazed how much smoother the Windows experience had become. Windows feels far better than Ubuntu in terms of sound, Bluetooth connectivity due to the drivers. If this is the case with my Dell laptop which is officially compatible with Ubuntu, I wonder how the performance of Linux will be on other older PCs. With WSL2 and VSCode integration, switching back to Ubuntu makes less and less sense.
Things like these makes me realize how little we know about the functioning of brain. Manipulating brain digitally would be perhaps one of the biggest technological revolution after industrial revolution.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity". I don't think the makers wanted to create a controversy -- especially on a sensitive issue like sexualisation of minors. This was more of a disregard on their part.
I have tried these hacks and they simply do not work. They might for a few days, but afterwards you get used to them. For me greatest realisation was, if I do not want to work or do not have something to work, I will waste time. I can throw out my mobile, but then I will find new ways to wasting time -- surfing random websites on laptop, watching TV, talking to random people, etc. The only solution for this is to assign some work to yourself everyday and have some sort of negative consequences if you are not able to complete that work.
This is so true. Similar is the case with professional social networking platforms like Linkedin. Back when I was in school, I could be content with being the topper of my class. But now, seeing all these people with similar background, doing better than me makes me so envious. Sometimes, I think to leave these platforms, but then these platoforms have been useful to me in keeping up to date with my field and in job hunting.
I have read his book "The Last Lecture" and I found it to be made up and over the top. The motivation he lists seem to be contrived and he comes off as pretty arrogant and narcissistic. Though I liked the part at the end where he discusses the motivation behind writing the book -- some sort of memory of him for his children.
