Except this thread and subsequent news articles being published on this event contradict that statement. If no one cared then why did the ceo care enough to slight of hand users posts?
I don't even bother with companies that judge their worth by how many Ivy leaguers and former google employees they have.
It's basically a billboard that reads "fuck off unless you went to a top school and breath elitism."
I must just work with humble MIT and Harvard grads because I have never heard something remotely close to this come out of their mouths.
I am also interested in this and I am willing to relocate just about anywhere in the U.S. at my own expense.
I know a couple other people in a very similar situation as myself also.
To OP, on the first there will be another "who is hiring post" so keep an eye out for that. This month had the most positions posted than any other previous month which is a pretty good sign for us.
I'm not going to disagree that the free classes from Stanford and MIT aren't better, but I find courses on Lynda, coursea, etc to be easier to swallow with the way they break it down and generally have a better delivery of content. Watching a video of a professor give a lecture is even more stale than sitting in the class and from the few courses I've worked through that's what was offered from the universities.
Also, I'm currently doing the modules on data science on coursea and that is put together by people from John Hopkins. I like this the most because the information is coming from a verifiable good source and in a format that is easy to digest.
A place I used to work at would do catered lunch once a month for everyone. Except for night shift, we got the left overs from day shifts lunch. Every month.
I do this everyday also. I'm gone by 3:15 and my coworkers are there until 6-7. I prefer going in before rush hour and leaving before rush hour and get the most of the day light. It is nice not having hard work hours so we can work on our own schedule. Now if I could just get to work from home a day or two.
Just by looking at the whos is hiring posts over the last year you can see that HN is growing fast and gaining a lot new readership.
I wonder how long it will be before front page submissions become a commodity? How long until usernames with high karma can be sold?
Is this place going to turn into digg and reddit with constant manipulation under the thin veil.
