Is there a reason for Javascript Specifically? My team has recently been using https://renode.io/ for this kind of task and it's working exceptionally well. Though they don't yet support ESP32, depending on your needs/goals working with them to get ESP32 support may be the most effective path.

I've done a lot of engineering software, and some software for science. I work with a lot of people in this space. On a whole I find it interesting that the defacto platform for these pursuits seems to be shifting away from MatLab and towards Python.

On a whole I think this is a good thing as there's less vendor lock-in and ultimately a smaller gap between the science software being developed and consumer/end-user software. This has also proven to help with collaboration between research and industry.

This is really interesting, I've been running Jetsons on satellites for a few years now, and recently with LLMs on orbit, arguably the most air-gaped setup you can get.

A big thing for us is bandwidth constraints on the inputs and outputs, S-Band radio in LEO is like a dialup connection that works for 10 minutes 2-3 times a day so pushing updates takes ages and even just live interactions during the access windows can benefit from brevity.

I'll definitely show this to my team, would be interesting to see what kinds of benefits we could get from this.

Would be interesting to find a way to emulate the Amazon back end to either a local server or at least a private cloud account. I think with more and more appliances and other hardware being useless when not attached to a paid service we'll see consumer interest in making it work without the service.

Not sure that consumer interest will ever translate into action unless the "offline" hack ends up being easier to implement than the original service plan, consumers tend to be more driven by convenience over cost. But I think there are a small sub-set of us who just want to actually own what we own.

this is a really cool project. I also appreciate the work that went into retaining the original CRT, that's usually the first thing to go in other projects like this but it does so much to make it feel special and not just another computer in a box.

I'm glad this is getting overhauled, the existing plan was a bit of a mess and NASA can't afford mistakes on a program of this scale. Hopefully we get safer and more effective result out of this.

Like GPU and RAM are these really unavailable to the consumers, or just higher in price because the demand is outstripping the supply?
