Self driving car would have been disruptive to their business model. Their biggest cost is drivers comp. Getting rid of drivers would boost their profit by an incredible amount. Not to mention all the political issues surrounding driver as contractors or full time employees with benefits.

Trampling on WeChat users' first amendment rights would be a violation. Many of the users are American citizens, like myself. I'd like to talk to my grandparents and cousins in China. They don't or can't use other social networks, so WeChat it is.
Let me guess. Single male, able body, no kids. When you have kids, you'd appreciate having a car/rent a car/uber when grocery shopping for example. And the city is full of people with kids. We are not the minority here. Not everyone is interested in a scooter that is inherently unsafe at moderate speeds.
