so in other words, you multiply by 1.6. How is having facility with powers of 2 helping you here other than knowing that 2^4 = 16?

I mean, I get what you're saying in that doubling a value several times is relatively easy mental math, and at the same time, this whole thread strikes me as overcomplicating something that doesn't need this much complexity and abstraction.

Why is respect earned, not given? The way you've stated that sounds like an axiom.

It called me to contemplate, and realize that I hold the opposite axiom – that all beings, including humans, deserve respect fundamentally. Some people might behave in ways that call this into question and modify the degree to which I feel I can truly hold respect for them, but that only happens with more information about how they are organized or disorganized.

What if they don't know to correct you, do you feel disrespected in that case, as well?

Thanks for posting - I'm more or less with you.

As evidenced by this thread - he was inspirational, and I appreciate that so many people here got that from him. And, yeah, I've heard a number of stories about how he treated women and his first wife that are just disturbing and sadly completely unsurprising, given the norms of our society (that are thankfully being shaken and revisited at this stage of human development, it would seem). This made me lose a lot of respect for him.

It started when I was a grad student in physics at U.C. Berkeley, he came and gave a lecture. He ended it with a tasteless sexual joke / pun, the kind that you would hear from a clueless teenage boy. I was really thrown off by that.
